i think i disagree with every premise here. lots of "nevers".

This car in this design will never be a replacement for the S Class.
never is too blanket, as the EQS will 'never' stay the same 'forever' either.

There are absolutely many buyers who would buy an EV S Class and wouldn't buy this.
you've decided what an "EV S Class" is or should be based on current and prior S-Class versions and somehow think a future EV s-class has to be similar to those, when nothing of the sort is true. the S-Class itself has changed radically over the decades.

Check out the MB World forums and the reaction to the car.
no thanks but i can imagine. a lot of bloviating from those who feel threatened. same thing happened in corvette forums with the new 'heretical' mid-engine one. i expect a load of porsche 911 fans are horrified at the Taycan too, but while launched alongside the 'traditional' gas burner 911s, it CLEARLY is the future direction for porsche.

Now in a future generation could they blend the models together into a car that has the proportions, beauty, stateliness of the S Class? Sure. This design however will never be that.
you state 'proportions, beauty, and stateliness of the S Class' like they're unchanging, which isn't at all true.

but yes, i believe the EQS in some form will be the new s-class because there is ZERO point in having an EV s-class AND the EQS.

This does not target the current flasghip sedan buyer who is not specifically interested in EVs (i.e. the buyer who is at risk of leaving to Tesla already)
can't make sense of that, if they're at risk of leaving for tesla then clearly they're not only interested in EVs but they're also not very much into luxury of many of the things you prize in an S-Class!

The interior is fantastic, elegant, well appointed like most high end Mercedes . The exterior is unbefitting their flagship EV

I have always been an S class and huge Mercedes fan, but I will admit this is not as pretty as the Model S. However, I could never buy a Tesla because I know the fit and finish of things would bother me. Depending on how deeply discounted the EQS may be, I would buy this over a Model S.

lol - i predict when people drive this electric 'cloud' they will be blown away. unlike a tesla it doesn't have fart cushions, 'open butthole' command, "i want my mommy" screen prompts and other juvenile nonsense.

It's like Mercedes themselves knew how bland and bloated the exterior was when they tried to hide it with that two-tone paint scheme.

Also why does a car designed as an EV from the ground up still have large air vents at the front?

Also i think mb has said there will be different versions including an AMG one (hand built electric motors? Lol )
The LC500 isn't an EV with a 100 KWH battery.

Perhaps Mercedes will make a faster AMG version- but when this thing can't even match the acceleration of a base Tesla Model S long range (3.1 seconds), then it's got some work cut out for it.

Looks exactly like I thought it would lol. Goofy looking, IMO. I’m sure it’s awesome to drive.

I agree, people will love it. But I do not think the sales are gonna be crazy as people think. people will still buy gas models.

Yes, I totally agree with you.
All the Tesla front ends are kind of bland or duck-like in apprearance, but the Model S's canopy and flares around the wheelarches are really stylish in my opinion.

The EQS does have a nice dash.

It is just terrible, worse then I thought. Again, what happened to that beautiful concept and then they end up with that, it looks like a entry level econo sedan but is fast as hell.

They went too far trying to achieve the lowest Cd value to extract as much range as possible and ended up with a very generic, character less design. I'm very disappointed. I had such hopes for this car from the concept car.

Now if we get Tesla and MB to team up again and have the refreshed exterior and EV drivetrain of the 2022 Model S Plaid Plus with the interior of the EQS I'd be in automotive heaven!😁😁

The EQS interior is great. Tesla should just have Mercedes build their interior. The powertrain is pretty weak though...108kwh battery and only 400 miles of range on the WLTP standard and slow at 0-60 in 3.8s comparatively. I think the Model S sales are going to be much higher than this.

Perhaps they're not actually vents but if you're referring to the left/right low 'tear drop' type shapes, there may be venting to cool the brakes or battery.

Agree completely.

Why must this be compared to a model S? I'd say they're very different vehicles. And not everyone cares about going 0-60 in 3.1 seconds or faster.

i believe it's a distinctive spec/design/platform to get their first big EV out there and get feedback. A bit like when the Prius was launched they didn't try to have it replace Corollas. Of course now toyota's prius is all but dead and they offer hybrid on many 'normal' models, like corolla.
