Hopefully its something that beats the Lucid Sapphire. Plaid needs to be king again. I'll probably be in for a new one, but probably not as an early adopter for all the reasons you state.
Remember though, the Sapphire is a $250k car, I don't think Tesla has anything to prove, all they have to do is add a fourth motor and maybe boost the battery size a bit
Every car company launches with their highest end car first. You want to see what the losses would have been had they launched the R2 first? Early 2026 will be here soon enough.
Tesla also FAMOUS for announcing cars years and years before they were launched…and announcing cars they never were launched lol
Like I said before about the Model S. Tesla needs high end cars. Most Model S buyers aren’t going to buy Model 3s, they will just leave the brand. I would never buy a model 3 but I would buy a Model S under the right circumstances.
You may disagree with me, but I think the times are different. Tesla is now an established company, they could drop 100k sales and they would be fine, of course the stock would suffer. Rivian doesn't have that leeway. And if they lose this $6.6B loan, I'm not sure what they are going to do because this was for a factory in Arizona they are or were going to build
What if you don’t like the direction the updated S takes? I probably couldn’t wait.
I don’t think I am going to wait. What I may do is lease for 24 months instead of 36 months and wait for demand to drop on the new S if there is one. Some speculate it’s just new features like front bumper cam and ambient lighting like they speculated all last year so who knows.

LOL exactly. She was already pissed because I kind of tricked her into going to the dealer today. She loathes car shopping.

Tesla was not always an established company, they lost money for a LONG time. Rivian has a great and popular product, they will survive. Might they need to partner with someone else? They might.
I saw this video a week or so ago and I thought it was just someone trying to roadster-ize the Model S. So, I just dismissed it as clickbait. But with the rumors now that the S and Roadster will likely roll of the same production line, I'm thinking this might be more than that. I wonder if someone at Tesla is leaking, maybe even intentionally.

The factory is in Georgia, not Arizona.
What's the chances that Tesla would partner with them?
From the pics members have posted up on here, they make nice looking cars.
like what Telsa did to the Model Y. But a little nicer
You may be right, I listened to the part of the podcast where they discussed the Model S updates and this is what he said which was left out of the quote I posted earlier. It would have been helpful to include this part too but it wouldn’t get many people talking if they did:
“We'll give it some love later this year, make sure it gets a little bit, you know the stuff we've been putting in the 3&Y.”
So it could be something like the front camera and ambient lighting as mentioned before vs a real refresh.

Yeah, I drove 4 hours round trip with my wife to some giant vintage store she wanted to see, and on the way back, I said I wanted to drive through the local Chevy dealership to see if they have a Z06. Not get out and look at it or talk to somebody. Just drive thru.
