People who do stuff like this always get caught because they can't help themselves. And they forget there is something called cameras. There was a guy who was a former tech who was fired by Comcast, he was going around destroying Comcast equipment and shut down internet for thousands of Comcast customers in Fremont. He would do it at 3am thinking he was slick, the police caught him in a few weeks by viewing various cameras around the area and his phone. Once they narrowed down the suspect, they watched him and it didn't take long for them to catch him in the act

Grok gave me a very detailed answer but here's what Rivian needs to do for them to pay off the $6.6 billion loan.
So, Rivian could pay off the loan by selling 300,000–400,000 vehicles annually at $950–$1,267 net profit each, or fewer (76,000) at a higher $5,000 profit per vehicle. Reaching this requires sustaining recent cost trends, hitting Georgia plant targets, and turning gross profit into consistent net profit by the late 2020s—challenging but not impossible given its trajectory and $6.7 billion cash buffer as of Q3 2024.
The above doesn't account for the $25 billion they've lost so far. If the loan falls through then we'll see the company diluting stock and other measures. The amount to me is egregious if you need that much just to keep the lights on something is deeply broken in the company. Especially since the company has been around for 15 years.
I’ve never understood why people are politically against “clean energy”.
as you know we're not supposed to discuss politics but i'll say that many people don't like being told what to do or at the expense of what people have done until then. people also remember enormous wastes of the people's money like solyndra. even the term 'clean energy' is pretty lame. wind turbines kill a ton of birds and are ugly as hell. solar panels (and batteries) aren't exactly 'clean' to make. anyway...

cars with loads of features and tech can be sold, for a while, if you're willing to lose a ton of money, but the party won't last long it your product isn't widely appealing and is still too expensive. i think allen k's the only one on here with one and that's probably only because he got a smoking deal with an early order placed, even though rivian tried to renege on it but then flipped back and gave it to him and others (losing even more money).
There are TONS of Rivians here. I have 4 agents with them and there are 3 in our kids carpool line. Once they launch the lower priced R2 models I think they’ll be selling plenty of cars. Whether they can be profitable or not…
I see at least 2-3 Rivians outside of all of that on the roads every day.
