and of course if you're in fsd (and maybe enhanced autopilot?) if you tap the stalk or use the button on cars without stalks the car changes lanes by itself!

now in my ioniq i find it annoying that tapping the stalk just flashes 3 times and that's it. it CAN change lanes on major highways (interstates) in its "HDA" (highway driving assist) mode, but it's very cautious and very slow.
I love the auto turn signal function. It's really good and you'll notice even as you have the wheel very slightly "angled" or pointed in the direction of continuing a lane change (crossing multiple lanes for example) that it works flawlessly.

I was surprised to read your post that the Ioniq can't connect to your home WiFi. I assumed that all EV's would be doing that to get software updates..?? How else would you get the update?

And I also love the music turning on when you open the door. I'm a music lover so a small, weird touch like that is cool to me.

I leave this ON and cabin overheat at 100 degrees. I don't care about the minimal battery drain. I use "Keep" for almost everything, but at times where the car is sitting outside for hours at a time, I prefer it not get that hot inside.

It would be cool if you could customize that for a home setting. Disable it at home, leave it on everywhere else.

I also never get into my car at home without using the app to set the climate to where I want it and see the confirmation that it's at my desired temp (or at least close). Usually takes about 3 minutes in the FL summer.

When the temps get hot out here, I just turn the climate on 10 minutes before I'm leaving, and the cabin is cooled by the time I leave. In the winter, the car has a schedule to warm it before I leave in the morning. So I leave cabin overheat protection off

What about if you leave the car parked outside in the dead of summer for a few hours at a time? I don't know if it's detrimental to any of the interior to get to 120 or 130 degrees or whatever it might reach here in July/August/Sept but I don't like the thought of the inside of the car getting that hot. I figure the AC has to work harder, longer to cool it down ahead of time, so I just leave the overheat protection "on". That way when I jump on the App and tell it to get to 65 degrees it's starting from 100 at the most. I don't pay attention to battery drain so couldn't comment on what it's actually doing there. I also leave Sentry mode on 100% of the time.

When temps are in the 100 degrees range, I do turn on over heat protection without AC, but I don't worry about it much, as manually cooling does the job for me. Not worried about the heat damaging the interior, as I don't think it will as it's built to withstand harsh conditions

good info! unless i've missed it, i do wish these kinds of power management settings were available in the app and not just on the screen.

so i took the tesla to work today because my 'work' car was empty anyway after the 12v battery death incident earlier in the week.

i love how the car 'guesses' that since you're at home you probably want to go to work so the nav sets to that without doing anything.

so as i drive down my rather long driveway, i hit the right wheel to go into fsd and about 16 miles later it's pulling in my office parking lot.

coming back there was some very dense traffic on one road (turn lane onto interstate and turn other direction to the fedex and amazon vast facilities so that snarls things up but will get better soon because they're adding a new interstate exit where the new buc-ee's will be.

anyway, the fsd handled it all like a champ!

i disengaged twice because 1) i saw what looked like a large piece of carpet in the road and wasn't sure if the car would stop and didn't want to run it over and risk it getting caught in the wheels and 2) some clown coming the other way turned in front of me long after their turn signal had gone red. i'm pretty sure the car would have stopped there though as not long before some clown cut in front of my as we were about to pass them and the car gently slowed enough to keep things smooth.

in the next week or two looks like there will be a big fsd upgrade (to v. 14) - i don't care about the significance of numbers much but will see how that goes.

Which kind of management settings are you referring to? If climate, then you have all the climate controls, including turning on heated/cooled seats from the app. I mean what do want, to be able to summon your car from the app? 🤣

I do the same thing just for peace of mind. I keep my car outside 24/7 so I like having overheat protection coming on when it hits 100 degrees inside. Also love having sentry on all the time so I can see if anyone touches my car when I am not around even if it eats 7% a day of charge small price to pay for peace of mind.

I only turn on Sentry when I park at a public place...work included. Doesn't seem to eat that much power, maybe 1 or 2 percent. At home I park in our backyard with a gate, and I have a Ring camera that would catch someone if they walked on my driveway. I used to have an extra layer of protection...her name was Daisy, but now her ashes sit in our living room

I have cameras facing my driveway but I love having a more close up of any potential perps like my son when he hit my prior Tesla with a puck and one of his friends was ready to take the fall until I said, “let’s go to the tape” lol. Things changed really quick.

so experiencing what you have, for us Euros that dont, would FSD or possibility of FSD factor in your next car purchase and how much?

IMO FSD is the best/most significant tech in auto industry. Will one buy a Tesla because of FSD? Not sure about bit and everyone else but I wouldn't. Not sure how much V14 will bring but V13 can still put you in bad situations. It's still "supervised" as it's supposed. It's cool to have it and use it to make driving less tiring. There are other features that I think make it worth it getting a Tesla. Sentry mode is one. My friend was telling me the other day. His alarm went off. He went outside and saw a shopping cart in front of his bumper. He initially thought a jerk pushed the cart to his car. He opened sentry clips and saw the cart started about 100ft away by a strong wind. I guess when turned on, the car is constantly monitoring all surroundings. No wonder why it sucks so much energy.

I might be looking for a 3rd EV... now there is a bunch of Chinese cars and some European that are substantially cheaper than Model 3 for instance, and I dont need a large vehicle - ie these smaller chinese/euro cars will do.

But I wonder if eventually FSD will increase value of used Gen4 vehicle 2-3 years down the line if the improvements continue in this pace. It would make sense.

it already did factor hugely in getting the model y I'm driving.

and based on my experience I'll never get a car without it.
