Default P0171 code and TRAC OFF light

I searched first so I know there are several threads on the P0171 code, but I just bought the car and there is also TRAC OFF light that came on at the same time. any relation when both come on simultaneously? i spray-cleaned the MAFS today, the dealership is taking a look at the car on Monday but in the meantime, why did the traction control turn off? any ideas?

Do you have a switch on the dash do turn trac on/off? I believe it may be on the left side? Can someone confirm.

Yes, the switch does not make the light go away.

OK so after about 3 months, I'm getting an engine light and TRAC OFF again. Willing to bet it's the same code as before, 0171.

Since cleaning the MAFS held the codes at bay last time for nearly three months, I'm guessing the thing has run its course and it's time to get a new one. Can someone please suggest an online parts place to get either the Lexus MAFS for this car, or the equivalent Toyota part, and about how much it will cost?

Thanks!

Found this one online...going once...going twice? Figured I'd share and see if anyone has a better price out there.

Did you fix this problem with a new MAF. Cuz just couple minutes ago my trac off light turn on along with the check engine light both turn on while driving. So i'm searching the forum for answers on what the problem could be.

hi ontoy - yes, ordered a new MAFS and it fixed the issue (so far, after a few weeks!)

i would recommend first getting the codes read before you spend money on parts. you can do this at an auto parts store or by buying the cheapest code reader they sell (CAN OBD-II) at harborfreighttools.com. it'll be useful down the line too. my code was P0171 plus the TRAC-OFF light.

Did your CEL ever come back cuz I'm having the same problem. I've replaced my MAF, Spark plugs, and air filter. Only other thing I can think of is maybe an exhaust leak but my car dosent sound any different. BTW my gas mileage sucks azz right now.

hey smitty

yes, CEL went off, no code & no TRAC OFF when

do a search on the forum, i'm pretty sure there's a possibility that one of your O2 sensors may be going. the fuel/air mixture will become fixed and that will drain more gas if that's a problem. had this issue on a vw...have your o2 sensors checked by a local indie, they can usually take readings to see if one of them if failing and the ohters are compensating, etc. get it checked SOON because using more gas than the car should will mean that eventually you'll also be burning out your cats!!

let me know how it turns out!

by the way did you run the actual code or do you just know the CEL is on? go to autozone or a mechanic and have them tell you which codes are triggering the CEL...

I have a reader and thats the code constantly coming back. I'll clear it and within a day to day and a half it comes back.

I have a very similar situation. I was diving on the interstate and my CEL/TRAC OFF lights came on. Went to Advanced Auto and had them read the codes. My code was P1135. I was told that it was my MASF, so I replaced it. The OBD II came back with the same code and the CEL/TRAC OFF lights are back on. My acceleration is better, though. Now what?

Default P1349 Check engine/TRAC off

My car felt like it was missing...then my lights came on, car was shaking sounding like it was going to kill, my brakes also seemed to stiffen. This seems to happen after the car is warm. I talked to a friend who recommended the vehicle, he said rite away O2 sensors. Well did my own research, had OCV's cleaned-didnt seem to work, have new ones being shipped on Friday. If this does not fix my issue, what O2 sensor should be replaced???

Wondering about this code...I have had my OCV's cleaned, did not fix my problem. Noticed there is a leak on my thermostat...wondered why I was losing antifreeze and temp was fine in car. Having it fixed today(thermostat).

My car is a 2000 Platinum series ES300

jessa12780, recommend you start a new thread.

Your symptoms are the same as mine with a bad OCV. I'll bet the new ones will solve the problem.

Your error code P1349, relates to the Variable Valve Timing System Malfunction Bank 1. Possibly related to the oil control valve.

Did you change your timing belt recently?
