Default Is this clear coat?

Hey, i havent been on club lexus in a while now. Still not driving but still have my es and am wondering how much money i am goin to have to save up to continue fixing it. I dropped a used engine in it from japan direct because my old engine had 220,000 miles on it and still ran but needed some head work, but i decided to just get a "new" engine. now i am running in to the problem of the paint

its been siting for about 2 years and i guess this is why THIS is happening...

and this....

is there any way that i can fix this without re-painting the whole car... please help because i dont want to do that .... and if i do have to paint the car... what color scheme should i go with
i was thinking the pearl white with like the silver/goldish bottom.... idk... please provide some input....

Yes, that is beyond repair, you'll need to have it resprayed.

I would paint it with your original color and color scheme
Welcome to CL BTW

I have read in some other fourms that you can take your car to a lexus dealer and get it repainted... is this true...????.... and if so how much am i looking at.....because if its some crazy amount of money then i might as well paint it myself....not that i know how to paint or anything...but u know what im saying...

To my understanding some dealers don't paint in-house", meaning that they simply bring it to a paint and body shop...I may be wrong though.

I wouldn't doubt that a good paint job can cost well over $2000.

Diamond White Pearl 2-tone FTW!!!!

No matter what you paid for it, a well-maintained ES with a sweet new paint job would be awesome - and less expensive than a new car. (New car payments FTL)

at least 2k- someone keyed our other car (05 prius) across both passenger doors and the rear quarter panel... cost $980 to repaint at a quality body shop. we paid $500 deductible and that was bad enough!

Paint your car the original color. You will save money on not having to paint the hood, trunk, and door jambs a different color. ( a pain in the ****). These areas can be made to look clean again with some compound and polish. (wax is optional since they are not exposed to the elements that often)

No matter how much you love your car, don't let it become a money pit. It happens to the best of us at times. Only be willing to spend as much as you expect to get back.

I love the pearl white combo but LXMN is right its not worth a repaint. I was gonna go pearl white monotone untill i figured out how much of a pain it would be to do.

wow... thanks guys.. this helps alot... so if i take the car to some local paint shop and tell them that i want the original paint, can they get it from lexus or something... like how does that work.....like my sisters 94 pontiac bonneville was white and Maco painted it black for like 2-300 hundred... but they didnt sand it down or anything... the paint kept flaking off... so we went back and got it right... but like would a 1000$ paint job include sanding and primer and stuff????.....

different production runs will use paints from different manufacturers- but a good shop will know which was used during your production run and pick that one. (at least, that's what the body shop told me when i asked about OEM paint.) keep in mind you'll probably have some fade going on if it has been out in the sun, so they might have to alter it a little to match of you're not going to repaint the whole car.

don't EVER go to maaco. we painted my last car that way, it lasted exactly one month after the warranty ended and the whole thing literally turned to s#$% in front of my very eyes. i was pissed.
