Question Clear Coat

My search came up fairly empty. Does a 94 Champagne ES300 have a clear coat ? I assume it does, but I want to be 100% sure.

Thanks.

I think that all the '94 ES paint colors have a clear coat. The Lexus dealer told me this when I bought my '94 ES. My car's paint was White Diamond Pearl.

Sorry to say this man, but your dealer told you wrong. The only body paint color that does not have clearcoat is Black Onyx. Don't ask me why, but that's the way it works for all Lexus vehicles.

Here is what Lexus claims about their paint on all their vehicles!

Lexus Anti-Chip Paint makes sure your Lexus maintains its showroom looks even after years of hard motoring. Lexus uses a resilient and slightly elastic coat of paint between the primer and the top coat to protect the body shell from chipping damage caused by gravel or stones, eliminating the worry of rust.
You notice they talk about a top coat(Clearcoat) which should include Black Onyx.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

An easy way to tell whether you have clear coat paint is to look at your applicator when applying a surface prep or wax. If you see the color of your car on your applicator, you do not have a clear coat.

Your car may have come w/ clearcoat back in '94, but if you've parked it 365days a year outside near the beach or some chemical factory or in harsh conditions, theres a good chance much of it will be gone by now, especially on horizontal surfaces.

I believe black isn't clearcoated because a clearcoated black car is VERY sensitive to scratches, and swirl marks on black are 100000x more obvious w/ clearcoat. You can still get a non-clearcoated black car to shine exceptionally w/ a good abrasive (used conservatively!) and polish.

I just did some heavy duty research and found out that lexusk8 is 100% correct. The Black Onyx paint color does NOT have a clearcoat when painted at the factory! It's true that I was misinformed by my Lexus Dealer originally.
