QD airbag again lol

You need to pry these little tabs back to get the hooks of the cover off the actual airbag

Old and new

Old cover with a hell of a lot of scratches and issues

New one off a 21k mile S8 Plus

Time to repack and get all the locks reinstalled

And there we go, most difficult part was the stupid label actually. Kept wanting to fold/tear

Is the bolster on the seats embossed (i.e. seemingly perforated, I guess to match the rest), rather than perforated? I always thought that perforations there would tear in no time at all.

All perforated, Audi developed a totally new leather type and stretch technique for this car specifically to allow the dynamic bolsters to not wear down. It's unusually strong/resistant to stupid, the weak point is the piping is prone to the dye being rubbed off.

Oh yeah, I always keep a spare for my permanent cars. Only this and my 03 truck have spares since they are the only ones that have made it to this tier so far lol!

I just never want to run into a situation where the car is unsupported 20-30 years down the road so I'm building up a full set of everything that can wear out like air shocks, arms, brakes, etc and also emergency items like a harness, rad/condenser, trans/diffs, and due to the nature of the engine and spare for that as well. I already have 5 power steering pumps I managed to find for $87 each vs $1350

If it was more easily rebuildable or if there was ANY info at all on bottom end specs and if I could buy any parts for the bottom end I wouldn't be as concerned but it's looking like I'll have for reverse engineer the clearances, fastener preload, bearing crush, etc etc etc because Audi/Bentley thought it's funny to assume that if something went wrong down there that you should just buy a new engine.

Never mind supported, in that time frame people won't be able to afford fuel for cars.

E85 and leaded AV gas blend for the win then lol! I still would want to keep it around even if gas is expensive but it will never be impossible to make/acquire. The amount of classic cars alone will keep it around

Its really really common actually in enthusiast or racing circles, all devices fail so it's good to have spares. Oftentimes that's why people with collections have multiple of the same car to "feed" the good/best one stuff off the others or buy a spare parts car for a project. The last benefit is that it allows you to drive on one engine and build the other and swap them in once finished, I just did that for a cammed 5.7 charger who finally received his built 6.4

Only makes sense if you are keeping something though.

I think there are very few people in the world who keep spare engines around for modern cars

I can’t think of any logical circumstance to keep a brand new engine unused for a car that depreciates. $25,000 invested is much more logical.

This isn't a common car like some Toyota where I can just get a replacement at the drop of a hat. If the 460 blew up I could easily just take my pick of hundreds of cheap new engines....

This is different and it's worth it to me. 25k isn't much money after all in the grand scheme of things and I just decided I would rather have a spare than 3-4 new guns

I mean sure but over the amount of time I will own this it's not significant and it's less than half it would normally be. Your lease will cost you a bit more for less years of operation if I remember correctly so it's all relative....

In my case I don't normally spend this much on cars since I would rather have stuff like high end NVGs and rifles etc. last rifle I commissioned and built out was/is $13500 dressed with scope. My carry handgun is $7200, so right there it's more than most cars I've owned. This year I decided instead of the usual buys I would go solely into getting stuff for the cars etc, the LS460 may be getting something cool as well but I'll wait to mention that until after I'm sure it's happening
