While I think this will be a really nice alternative to MDX and QX60, a starting price of $47-50K is just dooming this car for failure. Not nearly enough people are going to plunk down that money for a Mazda as an entry price.
For a car that will offer arguably a higher quality interior AND an i6 I think that is a fair price.
AND a RWD-based architecture just like the big boys. The MDX does a surprisingly good job of hiding its FWD-ness, the QX60 definitely does not.
I don't think it'll sell in huge numbers just because it's a Mazda, and they seem to have a lot of trouble with market penetration, despite the generally high quality of their vehicles. But it won't be because of poor value.
Cars are doing away with fog lights. Particularly European makes.
They are still there, just integrated into the main housing. On my Euros you have a separate button to kick on lower light pattern and much wider side pattern. Separate housings are not really needed anymore with modern lights plus it frees up space for radars etc....
This new Mazda is interesting, if the base numbers are decent that would imply a good amount of tuning headroom and possibly a real German competitor in the midrange car segment.

Fog lights placed way down low can improve visibility in very heavy snow and/or fog. Especially when used alone. Trouble is, the low beams are already blinding you...
It has a subtle and clean look with great proportions that I really like. Hard to tell from the pictures, but it still looks like it will be on the smaller side of the class.
That third row is almost as bad as the one on the X5 lol. It's basically an afterthought.
The 4-cylinder PHEV will be the base engine while the inline 6 will be above it, thank god they didn't screw up the order like the Australian CX60. But if it does start at $50K like what was mentioned above, this will get very expensive very quick fully loaded with the inline 6. Can Mazda even compete against Genesis and Acura, nevermind Lexus or even the Germans at that price range?
