It's gorgeous. Know which engine was in it? There were ~4 choices depending on year. The largest 429 (which obviously was standard in the Boss 429) is unique in being the only engine in a full production domestic vehicle for which changing sparkplugs is an engine-out service.
Here’s weirdo AJT with some pictures I took. So weird for a car enthusiast to take pictures…. Even if I’m waiting in line for 20 mins at the pharmacy and notice panel gaps and snap a pic…
Why would an owner of this not keep it sparkly? These are such gorgeous cars. Timeless Jag. The black looks great.
$5,000. If it had the blown 3800 (it doesn’t) I may have bought it just for fun to destroy. Those things were fast .
W126 420SEL
Ollllllld LS400
This city is starting to get crazy with the super cars and $250,000+ Bentleys, etc. It’s been like this for a while now.
damnnnnn that's seen better days!! it looks like it's spent the last 20 years parked on the hot side of mercury lol
ahh that's more like it
idk what it is but something about the LS 400 makes it look especially beat up when it's been neglected, but a pristine example (not that mine's pristine but i make an effort lol) looks particularly classy and special
also love me some W126 action, that's like the most benzy looking of all the S-classes to me... has those sleek low lines that they stopped doing once the W140 came out
I'll report it if/when it happens. I really don't expect a whole lot of trouble with this car in the foreseeable future at least. It's been pampered (but driven enough), only 58k miles it came with and already on second set of rotors, for example. It looks like whatever the MB said to do, the PO did. Who would spend money at the dealer for hydraulics, a second set?? PO did. You can get it done for less than half aftermarket.
Everything has a lifespan...

If I'm sitting in line at the pharmacy and somebody is taking detailed pictures of the panel gaps on my car...I'm going to think thats very weird...

Doesn't look too dirty...but I am amazed by how filthy people let their nice cars get. I can understand not being as picky as I am, but to pay all that money for a car and then just never clean it I don't understand. Run it through a carwash...
Ollllllld LS400
98. You can tell because it doesn't have a wood/leather wheel. 98 was the only year that was optional (ours had it). Silver Jade Mica (ours was Alpine Silver)
I have this thing sitting across the street from my in-laws' house for about two weeks. I finally snuck upon it to take pics. It has CA plates. I thought this car was only on sale in CA. I tried to locate any charging stations in Tri-state area, none. It may have been a one-way trip
Lol. It will be there for months getting alternate side cleaning tickets every week and no one will do anything. After covid they had a car across the street that was full of garbage. MIL called 311 multiple times and it still sat there for 4-5 months. Cops usually don't involve themselves with parking tickets or issues in NYC anymore.

It makes you wonder how it could make it from the west coast to NY without refueling. Can these Marai's refuel at commercial pumps that buses and trucks use?

Looked way worse in person than in pics. I imagine the interior of that is stunning, black leather against all that Jaguar wood. I've never seen that color combo in person I don't think. But yeah I agree. That's a vintage car and needs to be clean, I would NEVER take the SL out looking even half as bad (dirty wise) as that.
That's a steering wheel cover... I thought the same thing at first though. I too would ALWAYS check the LS400s steering wheel back in the day. (As you know it's easy to spot.

They look like shyyyytt because they were so nice to begin with, that's my opinion at least. Of course that pristine one is beautiful, they've aged so well. I still lovvvve the 2 tone paint. It doesn't look dated, to me at least. I would kill to have a black on black 2000 LS400. Lol you know that things starts up and probably runs fine, or well enough at least.
My 1992 LS400 was in pretty poor condition when I dumped it on CL for $1,000 in 2013. Timing belt had lost a tooth or skipped or something and it ran like garbage and wouldn't get over 10 mph. Mechanic told me it would be $1500 to replace the belt to get it running again. Car was worth less than that at the time, so I dumped it and bought a 2012 Fusion V6.

Good thing those early ones were non-interference.
I've read stories about people with old LS400s that people thought were dead, poof they changed the timing belt and everything A-ok.
I want to say the Cash For Clunkers, this happened a lot. But I may be wrong.
I’m sometimes surprised at how people treat their cars. A 30 year old Lexus or any other car that is not pristine is something I understand. In 2014, I leased a 2014 IS250 F Sport. The battery died when it sat in my garage for 3 days. The car was 4 months old. The dealer had to flatbed the car from S Orange County to El Monte. The service writer called to confirm they got it and remarked that the car was unbelievably clean. I said it’s 4 months old. He told me I would be surprised at how little people care for their cars and how dirty interiors are.
I don’t understand spending luxury car money, even at entry level like the IS, to then just trash the car. I also don’t understand spending $ to modify a car and not taking care of it. To each their own.
