It's getting tougher to find the best ones. Part of the reason I'm so attached to it is because I've had it for so long, taken care of it so long. If it got wrecked I'd find another one, but it would never be the same.
THAT I understand.
Like what? Engine is a brick, so is transmission. It's on a shortened W124 platform which is also rock solid. As long as I keep everything maintained I don't expect any significant mechanical trouble out of it at all. None so far in a year.
There are lots of things, starter, alternator, mounts, suspension bushings, struts, all manor of sensors and hoses etc. HVAC blower motors and blend doors, gaskets etc. The list is endless, and on a car that old literally any of it could happen at any moment.

and you never mentioned the emissions. If the emissions failed, big hassle
I totally agree, and it's MADDENING when they do since it proves that it's not a matter of can't but rather won't. Just imagine the LFA engine in the F lineup of cars as the halo engine option?
i'm over being mad about it, but i do agree that they could do it.
AJT - saw this last weekend by me, not a silver arrow but extremely clean. I’ve also seen a couple 2006-2008 SL65’s recently including my clear bra guy, he has a low mileage 2006 silver SL65 that I was checking out a couple weeks ago. I think that may be my favorite SL.
Speaking of low mileage cars, a friend of mine picked this up earlier this year. The car only has 29,000 original miles and all original interior. What a car.

Beautiful find....a 1970 Boss 429 or Mach 1 Mustang. I went to high school with the classic American muscle-cars of that era. 1970 was the last year before the significant emission controls started, which de-tuned the engines.

Peak British car moment, I went up to a finfeatherfur with my dad in his L405 and a bunch of friends to since they had a sale on reloading supplies/equipment (small primers are $69.99 for 1000!).....when we got there my door handle was disabled from a glitching child safety system. I had to roll my freaking window down and reach outside to open the door, absolutely an embarrassment and so British! This thing has had so many stupid little issues now my sanity is being tested since I want everything to work correctly.
a friend of mine still likes to keep his 1995 discovery around since it's been in the family from new, and it's just such a delightfully old school device... but the tach doesn't work, except when you're touching the brakes! even then it'll just sort of bounce up and down between 0 and 1500 but still hilarious to see it totally dead then suddenly start jumping up and down when he comes to a stop
It's gorgeous. Know which engine was in it? There were ~4 choices depending on year. The largest 429 (which obviously was standard in the Boss 429) is unique in being the only engine in a full production domestic vehicle for which changing sparkplugs is an engine-out service.

I'll report it if/when it happens. I really don't expect a whole lot of trouble with this car in the foreseeable future at least. It's been pampered (but driven enough), only 58k miles it came with and already on second set of rotors, for example. It looks like whatever the MB said to do, the PO did. Who would spend money at the dealer for hydraulics, a second set?? PO did. You can get it done for less than half aftermarket.

Oh yeah, looks like black leather inside too. SL65 is just a monster, I can't even imagine when you put your foot down in that.

Agreed, and oh I'll find one. I had one in Chicago from a SA car all ready to go get but he sold the car the day before I planned to go buy it, of course lol.
