General Car Conversation
Pretty much the worst car buying experience ever. Threw the salesman out of the finance office after repeated attempts to bait and switch me, and his manager finally did what he agreed to do at 10:30 this morning.
Will post a full thing about it later. Should be on the road shortly.

Well, good luck on the deal.
....hope you get it below MSRP.

just torturous isn't it...
never heard from the hyundai dealer person who said they'd call me today.
guess they're not interested in my request to get the deal hyundai's own website promotes.

You looking at a new Santa Fe....or upgrading to a Palisade?

After past Genesis G90 ownership, I thought you might be looking at the GV-series.
you've asked me this a few times... i'm not interested in anything bigger than a santa fe and am also interested in an electric vehicle, so an ioniq 5 and model y are possibilities, plus others. the model y will be refreshed after the new model 3 'highland' so timing probably won't work out for that. don't know if you read in ev chat, but i posted my almost week rental experience impressions of a model 3 (very positive, including charging).
i'm not. this is my work vehicle. that carries computers and other tech stuff, tools, etc. the g90 was a nice experience, but also when i had just 1 car. my 'nice' car is the lc500.

Yep I want to know the specifics of the attempted bait and switches. Buying cars is THE WORST. Usually when they figure out they're dealing with someone that's not a walkover they start to bend, or are open to it a least. If the whole day was a big j/o that just sucks.
However, the van is a very pretty color and looks really nice!

Buying a new car only takes an hour of you lay down and just "sign here" and "sign here" and let them put the screws to you, ask me how I know.. lol
If you haggle, it can take all day because once you are on the hook, they'll fight for every dollar.
Buying used cars is so much easier.
1) Walk in and decide the car you want and give them 5 mins to appraise your car and then leave & ghost them.
2) call back in a couple hours and tell them you want the "out the door price, I'll cut a check".
3) if price is ok, tell them, "it's a deal and call me when paperwork is done and I'll bring a check, I want in and out in 10 mins so have your act ready. Lol
Probably not that easy anymore tho...
I'm lucky, extremely lucky. The last 3 cars were cake, all of them.
January 2012: Found LS430, my uncle worked at the car lot. In and out in 30 minutes no hassle, got a killer deal on it.
April 2021: Bought LX570 from my friend's business. We go back 25 years, hell it was fun buying it from him and I got a killer price.
January 2023: The Universe aligned for me because the Mercedes (I was looking for years) popped up 90 miles down the road, and the salesman held it for me for over a month while it was having a top part installed. He had ZERO idea what he has and I stole that car too, lol.
I know car salesmen can be awful but my last guy with the SL was just perfect, and had integrity. They had the SL listed the whole time but no pictures because it was in that shop. I was the first one who found it and he held it for me the whole time, while people were seeing it online, figuring out what they had. There was a small group of people (I think two couples, and someone wanted to fly in from CA) praying I wasn't going to buy it (so they could) the day I actually went to look at it. He could have EASILY put that car into a bidding war, but gave it to me for their asking price and to everyone else= tough titty said the kitty! Some car people are so great, others are terrible.
July 2023: The Denali was sold to the family by the same guy who has sold them cars for 55 years, piece of cake. He's 85 years old and has still got it (I have been at every car delivery since I can remember). He just talks a little slower these days.
