If you drove it you would want it, SUVs and trucks are great all in one vehicles but they are not road optimized. I would rather use something that is intended and made for on road use with no compromises, I say that having started my automotive journey with trucks/SUVs....

The S2K is way better than a Miata, better balance and feedback and more engaging engine.

Sure…but I’ve been seeing a lot of Miatas of late…the older ones I think look so appealing amd look to be so simply. Newer late model Miatas I don’t find as appealing

Have you ever driven one? If you haven't you have no idea if you like it or not.....

If you like Miata's try a first gen SLK? They are the same size and so much cooler/faster and still retain the go cart factor!

With EVs, I really doubt there would be as much pushback from the ICE crowd without the heavy handed edict and arbitrary deadline of 2035 for all new vehicle sales being EVs. When the government mandates things, people understandably fear a further govy reach into their lives. Will CA or the Feds take away your ICE and force you to buy an ICE? Not from what the current "policy" states, but I understand the concern.

Yep, as I said if they really wanted to do this, they should have done it in stages.

12 years is quite a bit of time though. Maybe people's new vehicle purchasing decisions will change. After all, if you do buy a big V8 in 2033 or 34, you're free to drive it all you want. That is until the government bans it as well.

both fine cars, but different, i wouldn't say the s2k is 'way better'. as for a more engaging engine, sure if you like having to get to 6k rpm before ANYTHING happens.

If you remember, the First-Generation S-2000's V-Tec 4 had an (IMO) completely senseless 8600-RPM HP-peak and a 7600-RPM torque-peak. The Second-Generation's numbers were almost as outlandish.

Well unlike the Miata at least something happens at all lol!

Lots of revs like that is very fun in a manual car

Thats also true. Just refreshed my memory. The Honda engine was 120 HP per litre. That was highest at the time for a naturally aspirated engine. So maybe I was a little harsh. But the Miata also is good because in hindsight it’s so basic and simply and small. I never felt this way towards the Miata until recently. But it’s the older models not the current or last gen that have caught my eye

your Lexus 5.0 V8 is like that in a way. Peaks at 7100rpm I think.

that's red line, not max power/torque. the s2k needed to be revved like mad to get much power. definitely a REALLY fun car though.

edit: looked up lc and the hp max is at 7100 but more importantly, max torque is at 4800. 0-60 roughly 4.7.
"Horsepower 471 hp @ 7,100 rpm Torque 398 lb-ft @ 4,800 rpm"

(s2k 0-60 about 6.3 seconds)

I don't think the early Miata's can get those #'s without some tune or help.

We had a red Miata manual back in the day and I don't remember it being very fast.

Maybe it was faster than I thought tho, hmmm

I never clocked it so not sure.

my (2007, NC) miata was mid 6's i think. but i never cared much about that. it's the balance of it, the stupid simple convertible roof, the sound, the shifter, etc.

I don't remember the torque figure, but, as I recall, the original Miata was only 116 HP, although it was also somewhat lighter than today's Miata.
