General Car Conversation
Me too, but the last of the second gens I think still look great and have aged extremely well.
(Big) problem was, the LS400 reallllly edged ahead even more as the decade went on. Infiniti designed a really good looking 2 gen Q45 (after the facelift at least) but the rest of the car was junk compared to a late 90s LS400. It wasn't particularly fast at 266hp, though it was a smooth V8 at least.
The interior was a complete joke, especially if we're comparing to Lexus LS. The wood was all cheap fake plastic, same exact stereo deck that went into a Maxima. They just didn't try very hard. A friend of mine had one back then and I loved the way it looked but compared to LS400, not really even much of a comparison really.

that is a unique vehicle too. I’ve seen one driving around from time to time. White with a red roof. The one I showed was a G wagon with drums. Never knew
I rented a 2019 LX570 for my San Fran and Nor Cal family reunion lol...
Yes, it's to where I refuse to drive anything else. That's how these trucks pull on you, if that's your kind of thing.
Interested to see the upgraded interior and the feel of the 8speed, to see how much slower it feels.

It was cost-cut. I believe it was the same car being sold in the Japanese home market as the Nissan President. I remember that car and its fake wood vividly because I went to the Auto Show's Infiniti display and got a belligerent young salesman. To test his honesty, I asked him whether the wood was real or fake. He lied that it was real, I quietly called him out for lying, and he immediately went red-faced and challenged me to a fistfight on the spot. It was a very interesting exercise in image-building for a luxury brand.
The final year 2gen Q45 had an anniversary edition that actually had real wood.
