Yeah, seriously. I noticed all the S Classes had $10-15k markups too. Just rolled through the lot this afternoon the dealer was closed, I will email my guy tomorrow and ask if they got that markup (I bet they did)
That's the problem with the traditional dealership model, markups. It looks like a lot of Ford dealerships are going to be putting a $30k markup on F-150 Lightnings. And don't think that's going away. One thing EV startups are bringing to the table... direct internet sales. No middle man taking a huge cut. You see the price up front, everything there before you submit your order

Yeah, and this situation with markups makes ordering a car online with no BS pretty attractive
I Have a friend who worked for several dealerships in SoCal, and I've seen invoice price as well as all the factory rebates they get, and it's pretty criminal the markups. I believe in capitalism, making money etc, but not in fleecing people. Direct sales will benefit buyers of differing incomes by cutting out the extra fat...IE the dealership
Or there are buyers for whom the styling and its quirkiness aren’t a big deal to them. Those buyers would still buy it if it was more conventionally attractive.
At this point I've spent plenty of time in both vehicles and can confirm much of what SW17LS points out. The W222 does have better interior materials overall than the W223 and the EQS isn't as finely detailed as the W223, although I will note the W223 definitely has hard plastic sills as well. Totally disagree on the feeling of the interior feeling closer to an E-Class if I have to be honest.
I'm not disappointed overall by the EQS interior by any stretch but the cheapening of Mercedes interiors in general at this point in time is real. It will be nice when this transition period is over and they're not splitting resources so heavily between ICE and models and EV. I'm personally happy they were able to hide the hard plastics better than some others like the Taycan.
Despite all of this, as I've said elsewhere, for me personally the EQS is the way to go but the S-class is still comfortably the quintessential executive transport mobile.
