Tesla Cybertruck
All this 10 micron stuff is another example of Musk hearing something in a meeting, not really understanding what he's hearing or the context in which it's being discussed by people that do understand it, and then shooting from the hip with an e-mail edict that can't possibly be met by his team.
If you take his words per the email:
"All parts for this vehicle, whether internal or from suppliers, need to be designed and built to sub 10 micron accuracy. That means all part dimensions need to be to the third decimal place in millimeters and tolerances need be specified in single digit microns";
then understand that it's simply not possible to do that at price points that are compatible with consumer vehicles anyone could remotely afford.
To provide some context, many bacteria are between 1 to 10 microns and a human hair roughly 70 microns in diameter. A red blood cell is less than 10 microns. You're not getting tolerances like that on parts (and in his own words, all parts) for a production truck. So let's dispense with the insanity and just acknowledge he's gone off the reservation again.

sure elon, we'll build it to tolerances for the james webb space telescope and still be able to make it price competitive.

Do you actually think that he heard this (about microns) in a meeting and doesn't understand it? He has a physics degree from an ivy league school (Univ Pennsylvania) and on top of that founded a space exploration company manufacturing reusable rockets. I can assure you he understands microns as a unit of measurement.
And it's stuff like the above which perpetuate the myths about Musk.
But wait, he has a degree!
Well, as obvious as it may be, a bachelors degree in physics doesn't make you Stephen Hawking.
He IS very good at surrounding himself with excellent teams. He's very good at setting challenging goals. He's very good at being in the right place at the right time.
But he's not an engineer, and he's not a rocket scientist. And in cases like this, it shows.
He absolutely had no idea about the impracticality of his demand, or he no idea what he was asking for.
Because it's insane. That's all the evidence we need. There's really no inbetween on this. His email speaks for itself.
It's also not the first time he's made demands that his top engineers completely disagreed with. Elon's a smart guy, I have no doubt about that, but he doesn't know everything. I respect the guy, but I refuse to worship him. Although I would never bet against him
Agreed. He's made a lot of us a lot of money and he's created companies that make things and do things that a lot of us really like. But sometimes he does stuff that simply leaves you scratching your head and wondering if anyone could be that oblivious to reality. This is one of those times.

People with that much money are just not like you and I. They live in a different reality. Or maybe it's just us that lives in a different reality. Imagine walking up to the wife and saying: "hey honey, I think I 'm going to buy Twitter today so I can teach those wokes a lesson". Just blows the mind
100%.

Microns are a common measurement used in an industry such as aerospace and for aircraft manufacturing in general. He just so happens to own a company in that industry. I'm a dumb sales dude with a bachelor's in business and I'm familiar with microns (they're used in medical imaging... and the application was taught to me by... wait for it... my company's biomedical physicist!)
Point is, he knows what he's talking about more than you care to admit.
As mind-bogglingly insane as the Twitter deal was, and it's right up there fighting for its place at the top of the lunacy list, demanding sub 10 micron tolerances on all parts for a truck might just top it. You'd have to charge more for a CyberTruck than he paid for Twitter

It's just the reality of how shady everything is. Lol
Shadyness of the click bait artists, not CL members posting the articles, just like to make that clear. post away, I love the humor. Lolol

LOL, Hawking had a Bachelor's degree in physics as well, but we digress.

And by far the most likely explanation for that is because he doesn't understand what he's actually demanding from his team when he make the demand for all parts for CyberTruck be designed and built to sub 10 micron accuracy. It's so gloriously insane that there's really only one obvious and inevitable cause.
