Do you think Tesla styling is hurting sales?
Thats what frustrates me about him, he designs stuff the way he wants it not necessarily the way his consumers want it. Hence, yoke steering, no gear selector and the same old Model S forever.
Seems to be working out fairly well. No idea why you would want Tesla to follow the rest of the auto industry.

I look at it like the LS460. The changes made here are not dissimilar to the changes made to the LS460 in 2013, but everybody agrees that wasn't enough to stay competitive and that they needed an all new car. There is a lot of high end EV sedan competition coming, and I do agree that this refresh Model S looks very dated in comparison. Should have been an all new body.

I think most people are in agreement, it should have been a new exterior design also. Having said that I totally get why they didn't do that as has been discussed already - too many other higher priorities, low volume, reacting to competition etc

The difference here though is that unlike the LS, the Model S's mechanicals have been updated numerous times since it was introduced in 2012. There's few components that are the same from the latest model to the 2012 model, aside from the body shell. The LS was fundamentally the same car in 2017 as it was in 2008, in nearly every aspect.

I would like a full exterior redesign as well, but when the car can pull a drag coefficient of .208 without looking like an egg a-la the EQS, then it's difficult to see if a new body shell would be an actual improvement.

That's Elon's thinking but thats just not enough. Consumers want change they can see, and you will see Tesla Model S owners going to the EQS or the Lucid Air etc to get something new. Model S sales have fallen a ton, this redo wont move that needle.

If I had a Model S for 5 years this wouldnt be enough of a change for me. Hell if you got it in the same color nobody would know you got a new car.

Of course it could be an improvement. The Model S looks like what it is, a car designed in another era.

Tesla S sales have fallen because production was halted, FFS that has to be one of the most disingenuous arguments ever saying sales went down. Ya think? Can't sell what you don't make. And hilarious to compare to a company that has mass produced zero vehicles.

Of the Model S, certainly. Model S and Y sales are WAY WAY down. You will see once the 3 and Y have been out this long and also haven't been updated that their sales will fall off too. Consumers want new fresh designs, and competitors are going to offer them.

My issue is not with the styling itself but with the refusal to redesign a car after 10 years. It needs a new body.

Not everything the auto industry does is wrong lol, thats your Elon-worship talking. Consumers want fresh stuff. Thats why they redesign phones, computers, etc. Its not just cars.

Thats not true. Model S sales fell long before production was halted.

You can also make the argument that production was halted because there was no demand.

You could if you want to be completely wrong.

The refresh design has a wider track and lower overall height to the body. See dimensions of old vs new below

Too bad they didn't for the wider fenders, that would probably be enough to placate some of those who want to complain. I personally have no issues with the Model S, its the best looking Tesla by far IMO. Classically good looking proportions, just needs to have some of the details updated to look more modern. For example, an update to the taillamp design would probably go a long way.

So in 2030 people are still going to have interest in the same body Model S with under the skin improvements? How about 2040? Elon thinks so. He's also completely wrong.

Styling and aesthetics change, the Model S is a beautiful car but the proof is in the reactions of their own consumers which Hameed shared with us above...they're not happy and want a new bodystyle.

What about 2070? Think the S will still sell with exactly the same body style?

That's proof to you? Okay.

Here are Model S sales to current.
2015 18,645
2016 24,000
2017 26,800
2018 29,950
2019 14,425
2020 20,301
2021 4,156

If you want to talk about sales that have fallen off a cliff see the Lexus LS. But wait, they keep changing the styling that's what consumers want.

Like the 911, like the Wrangler, the Model S is an icon in the automotive industry. I suspect they will keep pushing it through evolutionary design not revolutionary when remodels are due. Personally I have no problem with this

Upgrading the exterior is not mutually exclusive with upgrading the rest of the car. The LS downgraded its powertrain, stiffened up the ride, and kept the same old crappy infotainment. If it wasn't for the exterior updates it probably would've done even worse.
