The more things change, the more they stay the same. Even though it might look pretty different, the 2021 Lexus IS still packs many of the same underpinnings, which means this new compact luxury sedan doesn't feature a massive price hike as part of its many updates.
Lexus on Wednesday announced pricing for the 2021 IS sedan. A base IS 300 with rear-wheel drive will cost $40,025, including $1,025 for destination, an increase of $440 over the 2020 IS 300 RWD. It's the only trim level that will net you Lexus' 241-horsepower, 258-pound-foot four-cylinder engine, which mates to an eight-speed automatic transmission.Adding all-wheel drive to the IS 300 replaces the I4 with a 3.5-liter V6 producing 260 hp and 236 lb-ft, and the transmission loses two forward gears, dropping to six. This variant will set you back $42,025, which is actually $10 less than the 2020 model is priced. Hmm.
If more power is on your list, there's the IS 350 F Sport, which takes that same V6 and bumps the power up to 311 hp and 280 lb-ft while adding a bit more aggression in the looks department. The IS 350 RWD uses an eight-speed automatic, while again, moving to AWD removes two cogs from the equation. The rear-drive IS 350 will cost $43,925, an increase of $1,145. Throwing in two more driven wheels raises the window sticker to $45,925, which is $1,095 more than the 2021 model.
There are a few options packages on offer, too, most of which are aggressively priced. Parking sensors are $600, and a pairing of parking sensors and a surround-view camera system costs $1,400. The always-excellent Mark Levinson audio system is $1,080, or $2,750 when combined with embedded navigation for the infotainment system. A power moonroof is a sensible $1,100, while fancier LED headlights with automatic high beams will set you back $1,250.

of course they did not. Literally new G16E-GTS just started production last month
Next steps are brand new engine series for V8 as well as V6 diesel coming next year.
2.4t with 300hp is certainly coming, question might be if existing block or something all new.
Plenty of engine development at TMC... and they have largest R&D budget in the world, they can afford to do multiple things at the same time.

In fact, there's more taking place under the Toyota label than with Lexus. They even have new tech debuting on Toyota products that isn't available on the Lexus. I thought that should be in reverse lol. Anyhow, you never disappoints to waltz in and defend Toyota /Lexus and ironically you aren't a potential consumer.

looks like they are streamlining the production and carrying it on. F sport is only available and standard on 350. Sedan sales suffering and they need to make it cheaper.
All of the turbo motors are under the Lexus branding. The Lexus LS and LC debuted multi stage hybrid systems....new 10 speeds.....Lexus debuted their first to market battery electric UX. Safety techniques like the safety hoods on the LS and LC were exclusive....climate concierge......24” heads up displays. New LS has some sort of more paint technology

The only way they can sell this thing is if they run lease specials. 6speed Auto in a “New” 2021MY car is a joke from a luxury brand. 😂
A 4cyl 330i is better in every way over this IS350.
Wasting the V6tt with 10speed auto is idiotic, not to mention they still don’t have a decent 4cyl turbo engine. They should have just killed the IS like they done with GS....go back to drawing board and introduce a worthy competitor at least on G70 level.

The ML system in my 2004 ES was not as reliable and not as durable as the rest of the car. The CD Changer got jammed, the ML amplifier blew, the Subwoofer blew, the radio became staticky and wouldn't stick to the preset radio station on start up. I did not abuse the system - I take care of my stuff. And, of course, the parts and repair for ML components is more expensive which makes matters worse. I'm not an audiophile, but I don't need ML. I'll take it, but I don't need it.
The newer Lexus’ Mark Levinson setup seems to be much better. They sound much better and I didn’t run into any newer Lexus’ with audio issues.

As I mentioned the other day, the sunroof is no longer standard on any IS. This is a form of cost-cutting, at least for the IS300. For the IS350 F-Sport, if one added a sunroof back in, the price compared to the 2020 model is roughly $1500 less. So good for the RWD 350 buyer, bad for the 300 buyer.
