It's built on the Traverse/Enclave platform and will have the same 3.6 V6 and the same 9-speed auto. Nothing more than a repackaged Traverse.
Not any different than the Escalade marketing strategy, which has worked pretty well. There's nothing compelling about this vehicle, but that doesn't make it a failure.

XT6 based on the GM C1 platform (pronounced “Chi”). However, there are three different versions of the C1 architecture.
XT6 is notably smaller than the gargantuan Chevy Traverse in all dimensions. Compared to the Traverse, the XT6 has a wheelbase that’s 8.2 inches shorter, overall length is down 5.5 inches, width is down 1.3 inches, height is down 1.8 inches, and the tracks are down 0.9 and 0.8 inches
I don't get it. Just plain Cadillac hate I guess. Pathetic.
I don't see any Cadillac hate, just disappointment. The CT6 chassis proves that Cadillac can indeed produce world class products. The new turbo V-8 indicates that they can produce world class powerplants. The disappointment is that in the critical crossover area, they turn out the mundane (at best) XT5 and XT6. Why did they not harness the greatness that was available instead of using a version of a Chevy platform and engine? Cadillac still has not created an interior that is on par with the rest of the CT6, but I'm sure they can. It just makes me kind of sad that they forgot about being "The Standard of the World".
When the comparison tests start with the XT6 and the Lincoln Aviator, it will be obvious that the emperor has no clothes. For the same price the Lincoln has almost 100 hp more, a much more luxurious interior. and more room.
I think Cadillac is in panic mode in a bid to survive. Their sedans are great, but didnt hit the market the way they wanted it to. Seeing how its an SUV heavy market, they decided to launch anything they could to capitalize. If they went an engineered a new RWD platform or modified an old one, the time to market would probably much later. The XT6 will do fine in this market

Moving the entire division to NYC, and then back to Detroit, certainly supports this view.

The main problem with the recent sedans is that they were too sport-oriented. Cadillac, in pursuing the BMW crowd, made the mistake of more or less ignoring their traditional customers.....the company's bread and butter. That is not a good formula for success.
he XT6 will do fine in this market
Probably so among the SUV fans....but not necessarily with the Cadillac traditionalists.
