If Alex is right, and this is priced on par with the Q7 and XC90, I don't see any compelling reason to get the XT6. I'm not repelled by its styling, but I don't think it's anything compelling either. I wonder if the CT6's TTV6 will be an option? THAT might provide some buyers a compelling reason to get the XT6.
I just read C&D's recap of the XT6 and their take on it is,
"2020 Cadillac XT6 nails the three-row part, needs work on the luxury part. It may lack luxury panache, but the XT6 at least looks handsome and is usefully packaged".
it just looks too much like a traverse to me... the interior looks quite nice though. if it's the same price and similar specs to a q7 i'm getting a q7 all day long.
They both look obviously like 3 row vehicles from the same carmaker, but the Traverse is notably longer and isn't as slab sided, has a painted C pillar:
BTW, the current Traverse is an excellent vehicle.
I can't see this mess as a competitor to the Aviator. It is FWD based with the course GM 3.6 engine and the trouble prone 9 speed auto. The Aviator is RWD based with a modern TTV-6 and Ford's 10 speed auto that GM uses for their RWD products. The Aviator is much better looking with a real luxury interior. No contest! The XT5 was non-competitive in the 2 row lux class and the XT6 just doesn't seem equipped to compete at a higher level.
They sell a lot of XT5s, hardly non competitive. I wouldnt buy one, but clearly people do.
By non-competitive I meant in interior, ride, refinement, etc. all of which the XT5 falls short of competition. Even with fairly large incentives, it still sells just over half of RX sales and well behind the GLC. It's a shame that Cadillac didn't put a premium SUV on the CT6 platform instead of this cop-out.

No one in my neighborhood that drives an Escalade or a Yukon (or anything else that is RWD based) gives a darn if their car is RWD based--I guarantee it. I'm willing to bet a vast majority of those drivers don't even know what that means.

I agree. Rwd is not going to make or break this vehcile. Ford went Rwd with their Explorer because they are abandoning fwd platforms for their cars.
I'd buy the Aviator over this for the RWD platform alone...

Not really. Ford has LOTS of FWD crossovers. They just came out with a new Edge which is still a FWD platform, Escape, Ecoboost, etc. FWD isn't going anywhere with Ford. The Explorer is also on the CD6 platform which can support FWD vehicles as well, they could have easily made it FWD.
Supposedly they chose RWD because it allowed them to make it bigger inside...I think it likely had something to do with them wanting the Aviator to be RWD for credibility, and also their Hybrid system for the Explorer and the Aviator is a RWD application built between the engine and the transaxle.
