The X1 is no longer a raised 3-Series wagon. 2nd Generation X1 is on FWD platform. It's the same platform as the new X2 and the Mini Countryman and Clubman. The XT4 only comes with a 2.0T. While it may be larger than the X1, this is aimed directly at the X1, not the X3--especially when you factor in price.

i agree its beautiful and to you and me better looking than the nx (and ux), but the market likes what it likes. the nx is successful and the ux will likely be too.

The general overall shape is pleasing, but IMO it looks too much like a Volvo SUV or Honda CR-V in the rear. And I'm not a fan of that teardrop effect under the headlights, which we also see in other newer Cadillac models.

Sat the new XT4 today. What a gem!!!! Nice exterior styling. Very nice well designed interior. The one we sat in had a touchscreen and remote dial, (what a concept) 20" rims, adaptive suspension. Double panned front windows. Those who are like GM interiors will like the interior, it feels very GM, better than Buick and Chevrolet but not class leading, it is very good. The sticker was close to $58K which is crazy money for such a small vehicle, but that is the way things have gone. The biggest drawback is emotional appeal IMO, it reminds me of the Ford Edge, I will say, I can't imagine anyone would want the awkward looking Lexus NX, but then going to back to the drawback of emotional appeal might be a reason.

Oooooo... that Atlantic Blue color is the one to have.
Priced one out online with very basic options and it came to $41k and change. About right in there.
But I agree.... it does not come close to purveying anything related to being a luxury vehicle. It's a well finished Ford Edge or Chevy SUV. I guess for a GM or Cadillac fan, that won't matter. But for someone looking for something to live up the "standard of the world" moniker and have something premium, this is way off. Some simple standard wood trim spread out on the dash or console would be a smart starting point. Also, the side windows need chrome trim.

I'd say there's a substantial difference nowadays vs say 15-20 years ago with the badge engineering abundance. Remember the Buick Rainier, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender, Saab 9-7X and Chevy TrailBlazer? Now those were clones, down to the interior. The NX and Rav4, and Escape and MKC which share the chassis components respectively, share a similar exterior silhouette, but otherwise the exterior creases are very different, as are the interiors.
