Also the Benz guys who modify AMG models actually prefer the OLD 5 speed automatic because its way more durable and doesn't mind increased power.
The reviews on the 9-speed from MB have been positive so far. The people who modify MB's is minuscule compared to the amount bought, so I'm glad they've kept advancing the game.

I wonder if drift mode, aka burnout mode, will make it over to the US spec models, or if our lawyers will kill it.
Why would they kill it? It's most definitely coming over here and the Focus RS has it as well.

Seems like all the cool tech, cool options, and a ton of performance cars never make it from Europe to the US. Although I think this trend is changing, the fact that you can buy a Focus RS in the states is a good sign.

When we're talking the legality of bringing drift mode over to the U.S., suddenly they are

Right? Of course then again I look back at old articles and see that a 1993 E320 Cabriolet was selling for $72k in the U.S. Maybe things are back to normal? Lol

It's true! And that was a lot of money in 1993!

so a friend had a last gen e350 when i saw him about a year ago. since then he traded out his (leased) e350 for a new e300. i hadn't been in one until now. man oh man, what a great job mercedes has done.

love the giant 12" display close to the driver that doesn't look like an ipad stuck on the dash (like the c class), although personally i wish it were touch screen.
but the thing that amazes me is the smoothness of the 4 cylinder turbo engine / transmission combo, and the fact that my friend didn't know it was 4 cylinder until i pointed it out! it's what i've been saying for a while, typical loyal luxury sedan buyers don't care what's under the hood as long as it drives nice.

i think it has what 9 gears but i don't know because i never felt any shifts.

i think it looks seriously great, good room for its size.

GREAT CAR.

friend's wife had an accord coupe which she hated (mainly because it was red ) but they got rid of that for a C class for her, which i haven't been in but it looks seriously sharp too. both cars are black with awesome looking (stock) rims.

i still prefer utes though

:
I do agree that most people don't care. But $52k MSRP is a lot of money for a 4 cylinder engine.

Yep, the 4 cyl is great and I have no issues with its smoothness or power. Absolutely no vibration in the steering wheel when you are at a full stop. It's not going to win any races but it has good torque. Sound insulation of engine noise is very good, but if you are outside, it sounds very clattery. I have been enjoying mine for 6 months and it has been great. However, there are several rattles that I need to get fixed...

I know they are 4 cylinders as soon as I start driving them. The low down torque does not fool me and a owner who drives it every day will start to notice the 4 cylinder negatives compared to a 6 cylinder. I test drove the Lexus GS with the 4 cylinder and it was awful. Mercedes is probably better, has to be. 4 cylinders should not be in mid size luxury sedans especially when they are priced over 45K.

I will say, I drove it and for a 4 cyl it's pretty good. Much better than Lexus' 4.

I've been thinking next time I may just spring and get an S Class, we'll see the pricing of the S450.

Been about 18 months since I last drove a Mercedes 4 cylinder turbo.
Old E Class impressively smooth quiet engine with a good torque curve at small throttle openings around town.
A majestic ride too the old E.

The new E is too plain and I still can't tell it right away from a C class.
Unless it's a E43, it doesn't stand out at all.
