2017 Mercedes E Class
I also don't think the E Class is that attractive....but hideous?
There was a C parked in front of my office, so I took some close look. The roof line is the problem, I think MB wants it to have better rear seat headroom so they make the roof higher than normal, so it doesn't slope down naturally, this created the weird look that I feel. I tried to like the C but I think it somehow looks 'imcomplete' I just can't seem to like it at all.
Well, the E has longer roof line so it doesn't have this problem

motorweek show this week had the new e-class. bottom line: john davis loved it.
even with just the turbo-4, it did 0-60 in 6.6 perfectly good enough for 99% of drivers.
can't find video online yet, but transcript here:

we’ll just call it one of the finest luxury sedans money can buy, and one you will still love to drive yourself.

I haven't inspected or test-driven it myself, but, from his description (and I usually take John at his word), it sounds like something with way too much technology for my tastes.

The E Class does have better proportions for sure.
Woot, amazing how AMG turned a boring design into something hot!!!!! Now I like!
it will be interesting to see how it go against the M5, as it's confirmed to have AWD and 600+ HP as well

They have my attention now

(I can't stand mb's current design....so hard to tell them apart.)
That actually could be a bad thing. A lot of reviews on cars with these new 8 or 9 speed transmissions have nothing but gripes about the transmission. Says it won't pick a gear and stay with it, constantly hunting for gears, caught in the wrong gear, doesn't shift as fast, ie the transmission is just sort of lost/confused because it has too many ratios. Also the Benz guys who modify AMG models actually prefer the OLD 5 speed automatic because its way more durable and doesn't mind increased power.
"the E63 S 4MATIC does come with a special ‘Drift Mode’ feature that delivers power exclusively to the rear wheels as standard. The mode is activated in the "Race" drive program using the shift paddles, provided that ESP is deactivated and the transmission is in manual mode, and it remains engaged until the driver deactivates it again."
I wonder if drift mode, aka burnout mode, will make it over to the US spec models, or if our lawyers will kill it.

Although that car doesn't look nearly as menacing as the AMG E63.
