hyundai genesis (merged threads)
You missed the point. Koreans *heavily* support their own home-grown companies and products. For a Korean reviewer to NOT like the Genesis is surprising. Notice he tried hard in the review to like it, and at the end he even said that he would not dismiss the car and wait to see what Hyundai does in the future. Yes it's only one review but nonetheless it's still surprising.
You original point was that this was the "cheapest and lowest grade" of car tested which I responded to as that is not true. Why are you comparing this to the US model, which won't be out for several months? This was a Korean model, tested in Korea and in Korea the Luxury model is *not* the "lowest, cheapest" model.
Obviously a V8 Genesis or a loaded Genesis is good for reviews, but most consumers will NOT be buying a loaded or V8 Genesis. That is just the way it is. Most consumers will be getting the V6 version. Once again you missed my point. If reviewers all test a V8 or loaded Genesis it will make a good impression and a lot of people might get interested when they read the reviews. But when they actually go the dealership and test-drive the V6 model (since they will likely buy the V6 instead of the V8) they will be dissapointed because the V6 model will not be on the same level as the V8 model.
The reviewer mentioned the V6 model gets 1 piston brakes. If this is the case for the 3.8L model as well, then that's not good. If consumers read a review of a V8 Genesis and go to test drive a V6 expecting good brake performance, they will be dissapointed.
Either way, we shall see soon enough reviews and previews of the Genesis here in the US.

Unless the U.S. spec version is much improved from what we saw here then the Genesis will be deemed nothing more than a superficial pretender by the international press.
I hope better for the car but it is quite possible that Hyundai's reach has exceeded its grasp on this one.
Korean video car media Autojoins reviews the Genesis with English subtitles. Very harsh criticisms.

I would be a little more careful before easily jumping into conclusion... or assumptions. Wait-till-these-come-out. As for the Genesis V8 Sedan, I wouldn't be surprised if it outhandles the Lexus LS series... I'm talking strictly in terms of handling/cornering. Lexus cars are known for having very soft ride and do not handle well at high speed cornering.

I agree, we shouldn't be jumping to conclusions, and that applies to you as well, jumping to conclusions about what the Genesis can do.
The review already says it has poor high speed stability, and high speed stability is essential for a Luxury car. Ever drive a Lexus LS or MB S class? They stay so planted to the road, you can drive 120mph with no vibration and stable feel. Although the past gen S class has weird issues with its air suspension, and sometimes starts vibrating out of blue sky
High speed stability in what?..
They have good traction/stability control but you can only do so much on a large, full size luxury car in the turns due to weight. It may keep you from flipping over or slide off the road under slippery conditions but they just can't do it in tight turns in the track. Physics don't lie.

Yes, I was talking about the "handling" and how well it corners. This would also be related with high speed cornering.
What you are talking about is purely measuring the stability in high speed going in the "highway". - Now that you mention it. I know what you are talking about. I have driven my Mom's 2003 Lexus SC430 going past 100 mph. It was stable as hell, felt like nothing. What's helping a great deal is due to the weight of the car, with good aerodynamics, and good suspension. But it becomes a problem when hard cornering. That's where the Lexus comes in to troubles.
But even on luxury cars having good handling/cornering is a very *plus*. That's what I also look at.
Like I said it for the "5th" time, do not make assumptions by looking at one review from Korea. Wait-till-you-get-more-reviews-from-other-source. Test driving would also greatly help. THAT's what I have been saying for the 6th time.

Is this going to be like the BMW reliability thread - only good things are allowed to be posted? :P
I dont see why would an Korean journalist drag Genesis down for no reason - Koreans are patriotic people and I am sure he would love to brag about how great Genesis is.
