1) The SC was designed as the Lexus Luxury Sports Coupe that was designed at Calty in Newport Beach. The 1st Gen SC never was a convertible because cutting the top off meant killing the car's structrural integrity and quiet ride. Which is why they redesigned the SC from the ground up as a hard top convertible for 2002.
