Just the threat of anything will scare the oil market. That's why I think these elevated prices will be here for a long time.

It's ironic. This administration is anti EV but they're doing everything possible to speed up EV adoption. Weird.

We've had worse fuel crises than this before. Like I said I can't even imagine the 70s crunch with the even and odd days etc etc.

Adjusted for inflation, gas in 2008 here is $6.12 in today's dollars and that's for regular and that's in TN where gas is always considerably behind the rest of the nation with the prices.
Its not pessimism, its reality. Making plans based on realistic outlooks for the future is actually a strategy. Families need to plan for high gas prices for the foreseeable future. Families need to adjust summer travel plans accordingly etc. Just because "its been worse before" doesn't change the reality of now.

Already seeing it. I have several friends who own vacation properties and ALL of them are seeing bookings cancel, where normally this time of year they are already booked out.

you have nothing to base that on, except saying it came down in the past. i believe it's equally possible gas is going to $10 a gallon in the next few months (i'm not saying it is).

i agree with you, people should plan for high prices to continue or get higher. if prices do in fact come down, that's great, but i doubt that's any time soon.

Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

Housing market has also slowed down tremendously over the last month. Consumer confidence and interest rates. Lots of buyers out there (lots of showing traffic) but few pull the trigger.

When they start charging by the quart for gas I might start to get worried. Lol

I heard in some countries they charge by the 2 liter.

On March 30th I predicted diesel would hit $10 by Memorial Day. I was wrong and it's not going to happen by May 25th but I still think it's possible over the Summer. If the situation is still going on over there and we have an active tropical season in the Gulf.

Yes, that's all we can do now. Thankfully, we reserved our hotel, and booked our flights in Feb for Jul....phew Relieved

My niece, who's also in real estate, said the same thing. Surprised me as we're heading into the "moving season" to get kiddos situated before the next school year starts, but that's what she said as well. They recently bought a home and put their old one on the market. Not one person showed up to the open house. Then finally, there was a decent offer put in with a quick closing so they won't be responsible for paying 2 mortgages anymore. Another whew Relieved

Just checked our Costco and it's the same as yesterday -- $5.29 reg / $5.98 prem -- doubtful, but hoping it stays under $6

When we lived in Germany (mid 90s) it was by the liter and it was expensive. Can't imagine the price of gas there now.

You have to remember that some of the measures that were taken to lessen the impact of the supply constraints can't continue indefinitely. There is only so much in the strategic reserve, for example, and there is a finite amount slack in the supply chain that will have acted as a temporary buffer. So it's more than possible that elevated gas prices will not only continue, but will continue to rise. This probably isn't going away anytime soon.

All this is doing is turbocharging EV adoption.

Right but I agree this is definitely for the foreseeable future, I never said otherwise.

I just think the worst case scenarios are just that. Gas isn't going to be $10 lol, and it WILL come down. It will take longer than we all like but yes.

I never thought it would go up to even near $10 a few years ago either, I'm not being partisan here.

Well, to be honest, it probably IS the equivalent of $10 U.S. dollars (or more) in parts of Europe and Japan right now. If it ever reached that level in the U.S., I think people, (wherever possible), WOULD be forced to finaly make some big changes in the number of miles they drive in ICE vehicles

If gas hit $10 diesels would come back with small engines.

Also to my point earlier, I'll just copy and paste my text. This is good for those who aren't flush with cash..

-------------

At least **** box clunkers are old civics and fords that are already good on gas. Unlike us when junkers were the size of Cadillacs.

Like the people who don't have much money, that’s good for them.

Think about the junker novas and ford ltds when we were young.

A junker 2000 Toyota Corolla or Honda will still get 30mpg.

At least there’s that.
