Okay, I'll make sure to tell him he was wrong and that he should like his 460 more than the old 430 he had more according to you if I talk to him again.

I bought my 2018 Tundra in 2023 because well cause it was a 2018 and I specifically wanted a 2018 because:

1) Still has the 3UR
2) Last 2.5 model year with factory transmission cooler
3) 1st model year 2.5 gen with LED headlights

So I found the lowest mileage 1794 edition I could find nationwide which was 950 miles away.

I know lots of people who buy used cars who can buy new cars. People have different financial priorities. BUT, I have found it interesting posting on forums and Facebook etc and in real life...people who buy new cars don't try and tell people who buy used cars that they are making a mistake, but people who buy used cars spend a lot of time and energy trying to convince people that they are "wasting money" etc on new cars. Shows many of them really would rather buy new cars but they can't because of their own situation or mental hangups.

agreed. My 04 4Runner is coming to the end of its life. Gonna get a new Subaru with full time awd to replace full time 4WD The new 4Runner is way too much money
Thats where I'm at. I'm honestly kind of disillusioned with expensive cars. Right now I give keeping the Pacifica at 50-60% chance. I see other cars I would like but they are so ******* expensive. I just don't want to spend $3,000+ a month leasing cars. I can, but I don't feel good about that. If It makes me feel icky its not fun.

I also may seriously get something cheaper than the S580 next time. You know what really catches my eye? The MB GLC PHEV. One of my agents has one and she parks next to me all the time. I also really like the Genesis GV70. I could see us buying the Pacifica, keeping it for 2 years and replacing the S580 with something like that and getting something better then to replace the Pacifica which would keep us paymentwise where we are now ($2,500).

They are super nice.

Remember, many people don't see the difference in a Camry and a Mercedes either.

When they are old and you are keeping them on the road I totally get preferring the 430. If I was going to buy an old one I would buy a 430 too, the 460 has so many more expensive needs even though the older 460s are much better looking IMO.

BUT...when they were new the 460 was more car. Better suspension, more sophisticated, much better looking IMO, more youthful feeling, better power and performance, better technology. The 460 was truly a Mercedes peer in performance and sophistication while the 430 was a much less complex car...but being less complex it ages much better.

Many times, it depends on the car.

When I was buying my wife a Camry 20 years ago, it didn't make sense to buy used unless you were willing to get something more than 5 years old, which I wasn't. You just didn't save that much money and you likely missed out on many improvements, especially advancements in safety.

But, when I decided to buy my Plaid, it was a no-brainer to go used. The car I purchased was 2 years old with 30k miles. It cost $140k new. I paid just over $60k for it, and it still had 2 years/20k miles of full warranty on it, and 6 years/120k miles of drivetrain/battery warranty left on it. That's $80k that just disappeared in 2 years. Ouch.

Lots of factors to consider. But cars have gotten so good these days that, if it was taken care of, you can hardly tell any difference between a new car and one that is a few years old. That wasn't always the case. There are some very good examples of used vehicles out there today at a significant discount, especially high end luxury vehicles.

Me too.
I've bought new and used cars.

It depends largely on my need and wants.
At my age I really prefer not to make car payments anymore.

Tired of the monthly strokes.
But, for the miles I drive- if a new car out weighs the cost of depreciation and repairs of a used car, the logical choice for me would be to buy new again.

Or, if I needed something reliable to put lots of miles on for work.

Or, if I was rich I'd just buy what I want. Lol

Ceramic coating came out great! My bud washed all that wiper fluid off the car. We had a lot of fun cruising yesterday. My spouse works so much he barely gets to enjoy the car. You may have to zoom in.

Then why don't more people work on them and keep them running? They more often than any other type of powertrain just end up dead

Have you ever owned a 460? You might want to own both at the same time to really have any position to judge them....

Says the person who says the most objectively reliable car in the world is junk.

I don't care for the 460, it felt like a downgrade in every way.

I have a nicer 430 than you do, it's just simply not as good of a car 1:1 compared with a fully up to spec 460.

It also has some severe age related issues that the UR engine simply never has to worry about. Leave both cars unattended other than oil changes and gas and a 430 will die first every single time.

Remember, Striker said the same thing before he had a 460. They banned him from the 460 forum because he complained about it so much.

Early 460s had cost cutting issues in the interiors that were indicative of where Lexus was as a company at the time, but from a design and mechanical and performance standpoint the 460 is heads and shoulders more advanced. You like Mercedes, you would love a 460.

Its just not, the 460 is way more car.

I don't agree with that...lots more to go wrong in a 460.
