Thats just not true. Many many buyers, myself and bit included don't buy used cars. Price is a consideration for buyers of everything. Comparing new cars to used cars doesn't make sense, used cars will always be cheaper but they aren't new cars. Cars are compared to their peers that are offered to buyers in the same price and type category.

Thats why automotive publications don't compare a Maybach to a 740i. That comparison isn't even interesting. Whats interesting is comparing and discussing cars that compete with each other.

Many of us have zero interest in a used car, so for us new always wins. I would rather buy a new ES than a used A8.

Then you wont ever have the best car possible for the money, simple as that.

And I don't care. "Best" is relative, I don't like used stuff, I want new stuff. I will wait until I can buy what I want new...which I am now able to do. I don't have any desire to drive any car higher end than I already drive.

Everyone says that until they can afford better lol!

Best is absolute. Better is better, more is more.

I never said that before I could drive cars at this level. I can afford better now, I just don't have any interest. Something like a Flying Spur or a Maybach or whatever doesn't appeal to me, I wouldn't feel comfortable driving it every day and everywhere I go and in any weather, just not my thing.

Just like my house, my mortgage is less than 10% of my income, I could afford a much bigger house but I have no interest.

Constantly chasing "better" for the sake of it being better is self defeating. Being satisfied with what you have is a true gift.

Remember how I said the Chrysler dealer gave me the Pacifica back with the rear carpet replaced and didn't bother to vacuum it? I got it all cleaned up today and this is how the new carpet was delivered back:

You can be satisfied but still drive to climb higher, in your case since you don't have more than 2 cars at a time/no space for more I can see why a UL car would be impractical.

I probably also wouldn't want to drive something like that around everywhere, especially in a city. I own entirely different cars I don't care about like that when I'm going downtown.

Yeah that's not good. Car should at least be the same as when you left it

You will get to a point in your life where "stuff" and "better" just matters less to you. There is always something better, no matter what you have.

That happened to me in my 40's.
Good enough is now ok. Lol

Doesn't mean I won't buy an Escalade if I win the lottery.
Because, I will.

Rode in a new Yukon XL today and was blown away. Fit a ridiculous amount of luggage with the third row up. Interior is very well done. Had 500 miles on the odometer.

I choose to buy used cars so that I can take the difference and invest it, or if there's something specifically about a used car that you can't get with a newer one. In the case of my 540i, I bought an earlier G30 because they're far easier to tune, as well as to disable auto start stop.

I'm mostly this as well, as soon as I discovered how money works I stopped buying new. Plus the stuff I really want is only used and combined with my skillset it makes no sense at all to buy new.

The experience and performance I can get for a fraction of the cost would require a $175k car at minimum to match and that's simply not worth it to me.

Much rather (and do) spend the money on guns and related stuff. I still somehow ended up spending $110k in 4 years on cars though so I guess I'm an idiot lol!
