General Car Conversation - 2026 Part 1
I know a bunch of well off people who downgraded, mostly due higher lease prices past pandemic. Going from m cars to regular models, going with smaller engines and less options, etc.
Interestingly, most of my friends don't lease either. One of my buddies I went to Vegas with drives a 100 Series Land Cruiser, daily driver. They have a perfect condition first gen GX they gave their daughter.
So General car convo becomes general life convo lol
Anyways, so Sato San might have departed after being the canary in the coal mine. The full article is paywalled on AN, but seems like Toyota is dealing with supplier issues, factory closures, cant get basics right, and competition is chomping at the bits. In addition he mentions that legacy habits are holding back innovation at Toyota.
Master Gazoo is this why an accountant/your personal secretory has been appointed to replace Sato San?

how does that 1985-era screen calculate "savings"?
you clearly have no clue how tightly packed the LC platform is. the difference between an LC500 and an LS600 is the LS600 was a LOT bigger and could fit all that gear (hybrd, awd, v8, etc).
so bottom line, Lexus could not fit a v8+hybrid in the LC500.
you have no business telling Steve what he "should" do.
it would be easy to say you "shouldn't" do that.
we all 'waste money' in the eyes of others and we can all rationalize anything. rationalizing buying louis vuitton hats because you don't have to pay for daycare and daipers is a new one to me.
your obsession with my purchases and interests is unique.
endlessly repeating it is beyond tiresome.
the lc500h may have been immensely unpopular in the u.s. at least, but clearly lexus put an enormous amount of effort into building it so they thought it was worthwhile, especially outside the u.s. where v8's are less popular (typically due to taxation costs).
YOU or your wealthy friends may not care but i assure you there's tons of rich people who are irrationally sensitive to gas prices. i also know a millionaire who turns off light switches to "save money" when they're all LED and cost pennies a YEAR to operate.
neither do you! you're quite insensitive about it.

We all dropped a fortune in Vegas shopping, and the trip was very expensive

and you just don't seem to get that different people live different lives.
I wouldn't be giving my kids a shitty education if it was public.... the schools K-12 around me are among the best in the county. If my child had special needs that might be different, but even kids with special needs get good care. My mother was a teacher for 30 years for Knox County.
What I DID say was any parent who chooses to drive an expensive car instead of giving their kids what they need and would benefit from is a shitty parent. What car you want should have no bearing in your decision making process when it comes to providing for your kids education.
Same.
Lol so now you know the best place to send a kid to school in Knoxville even though you've never even been here that I'm aware of.. So, is someone in Knoxville bad who has an Escalade V but doesn't spend their money on private schools?? Are they a bad person?
And you're just repeating your opinions and ways of life and about the $700, I read you loud and clear for the umpteenth time and have agreed with you even that it's all about different situations and priorities several times. ??? This is stupid and a waste of brain cells.

Silky Johnson, as usual, you’re late to conversation as I was posting mileage driven per month and glad I have my Prius.
That 1985 era screen will outlast your batteries 🪫 🤪
Your obsession with my Prius tells me, my Prius occupies a studio apartment rent free in your head. 😆 Hate on Mr. Johnson, hate on.

As it's not his place to keep telling me I'd do this or that differently. I'm sick of this back and forth I already said can we change the subject.
Why? Do you have any idea of the hell I've been through over the past 5-6 years with the back hell? Actually you do bc I told you everything. If you think I shouldn't have spent money on nice **** that I can afford and have a little retail therapy, whatever. I'm not trying to bust out the violins, but the other day I came to the realization that I'm fully in my mid 40s now. The last 5 years of my life have been lost it seems like, thinking about how I didn't even notice it until now was very disturbing. I had no 40th Birthday fun, I was getting an MRI for the second of 6 back surgeries. I remember being pretty bummed but tried as hard as I could to let it not get to me.
We aren't rationalizing. See, you quite rude as well, and it better not be "rules for me but not for thee" on here now that you're modding again.. That is a very underhanded insult. "Rationalizing" infers just making up reasons to do something. You can't tell me my friend doesn't have a point, that's all I was saying. Having kids is vastly different life financially than not.
Ok well just tell THEM to rationalize like they must have in 2021-2022 when gas skyrocketed.
Baloney. Examples please?

You are taking this way too personally. I said that if cars were less recreational and more a necessary tool for you that I think you would be less enthused about paying more for gas than you have to. I totally believe that to be true. It’s an “if you were in my position I think you’d see things more similarly to how I see them” thing. $700 a month spent on gas to drive around for fun is different than $700 a month spent on gas to drive back and forth for work.
If I had no children and didn’t drive around for work and had few things to be responsible for, I know I would see things more similarly to how you see them. Doesn’t trouble me to admit that. It’s the “30 year old me” vs “44 year old me” thing. You’re more like 30 year old me. That’s not an insult at all and has nothing to do with age, but it’s just that when I was 30 I had good income and no kids and not much in terms of responsibility. That’s when I traded a Prius in on a Jeep when gas prices were $6 lol. I would have a really hard time doing that today.
