Default Dealer Games

Calling around to multiple dealers while pursuing an LC, it always amazes me how uninformed they think customers are.

I've been told, and I quote, "we are the largest Lexus dealer in the country, so if we can't get new LCs no one can" by three different dealerships in the same day. While the numbers are tapering off, plenty of NEW LCs are in production and/or en route. And there can only be ONE "biggest Lexus dealership in the country".

I get the audience for Lexus products skews older, but even people in their 50s/60s/70s are pretty internet-savvy these days. It's an insult to the customer's intelligence when they spout such easily falsifiable lies.

Anyone else find this sillyness downright insulting?

Are you searching outside of your local area?

Quick CarGurus search came back with 8 within 500 miles of me down here in Texas.

Nationwide search resulted in 39.

That’s just for those who list on CarGurus.

Oh yeah I've been looking nationwide. Which is a big factor in why dealers' lies are so obvious. It's like they think the internet doesn't exist.

I'm only seeing 44 nationwide. 35 used, 9 new.

sure, the LC is the right fit? Heard that it is quite loud.

really is a shame. The hybrid is no longer in production, it’s quieter @BayeauxLex

As bad as telling the buyers that they bought the first of a particular model in their state/county/city.

What are you talking about?

1. The LC is amazing. And its sound is a big part of why.
2. It is worthless without the V8. There is a reason Lexus canned the hybrid variant.

Part of the buying projects from me is identifying a dealership I can put some level of trust in
If you don't like what you hear move on
Any dealer should be able to do a search to see what is coming and to which store
Maybe they can do an inventory trade (usually will cost you something) or you can contact the store with the car you are interested in directly

The Lexus dealership experience is pathetic when it comes to the high end vehicles.

Dealers are clueless and don’t care - they are happy to sell their vanilla RX, NX, TX etc

I still don’t get why they don’t have a simple way to order a vehicle like the LC, LX, GX etc. You can’t have a true luxury brand without providing customization for your clients!

BTW LC500 is an amazing car and sales would be MUCH higher if people could order them like a 911 or any BMW.

Remember folks lat Honda and Toyota like balanced production
They plan for the year and they build per plan
The bespoke build to me was kind of a minor experiment/concession to someone asking
Seems like it was not a dealership ask as the experience has been spotty
Plus the bespoke build provides a limited palette to play with
I specced my Ferrari Amalfi at the dealership and they options galore (at a price)
Back tot he bespoke build, nice they offered it and the pricing is consumer friendly, kind of a take it or leave it thing
Strangest element for me is if I have this right, you can't get the coupe with rear wheel steer in a bespoke build
