Dealer Games
I'm not surprised at all.
Seems these days they want to close sales fast.
The experienced salesman they called to help you determined quickly you were in the "shopping phase" and not in the "buying phase" so he cut you off short.
Also, the "how low can you go" made him not want to play.
You saved both of you time becauase you are looking for a deal and they want max dollar on deals they can close TODAY. Lol
Everything has changed and the buyer doesn't seem to hold any cards anymore. 🫸🫷

Plus, if the sales manager knows you live nearby to just pop in, you're probably coming back for service anyway...
And to be clear, I have no issue with someone wanting the best possible price over all other considerations. I used to try and convince people that wasn't the right approach, but thats a lost cause. A certain % of the population buy solely based on price, and thats what they're going to do and theres no sense in trying to convince them otherwise. They're just not customers for me, and thats totally fine.
Issue is, expecting the cheapest price AND equal or top customer service isn't a reasonable expectation. Lower cost has to equal lower expectations also. Honestly with BMW just use a broker and get 12% off and call it a day.

Sometimes salespeople/businessman figure out the customer is not worth the trouble so they cut their losses early. My BIL does, but I don't expect a store to kiss my feet because I'm paying them $$ for something. When I go into a dealer I like to look around. If I'm interested in something, I'll find a salesperson to deal.
I
Anyway some young man comes to me while I’m looking at 740i and asks if i need help. I say how much off are you doing on custom order. His answer - I don’t know, let me get a manager lol. Right away i know that’s not a good sign.
5 minutes later old man comes by. He starts the conversation by “heard you need some help” No introduction, no happy holidays, no nothing.
So i ask him - I’m looking to know your best discount on ordered 740, “maybe we can do 2-3%” I say ok I’m getting 6% already from my current dealer. His response “sure you will see what happens when you order it” then proceeds to walk away…..

Any representative of a business should always treat a consumer with kindness and respect. Its just professionalism. Hard to do sometimes when you are not receiving that from the consumer.
It's not just Lexus. Same with BMW and MB from my experiences. I'm fortunate enough to have a hand full of dealerships with drivable distances around me. Some are nice, others are straight up jack***. As (an experienced) buyer, I don't give a jack about what they think of me. I always do my homework well before I reach out so I know what a good deal would be. If they want my business (call it cheap if you want), I'll deal with them. If they don't want to deal, be it. I'm always up front with them.... "I respect your time and I want you to respect mine. I'm looking for xyz% off MSRP before incentives. No add on." Then go from there.
Some recent extraordinary experiences...
- We don't go less than MSRP on a car that's not here yet.
- The car you're looking for is hot. 2k is the best I could give you. If anyone gives you more than 5%, you should jump to it. Lol.
OP: There are plenty of choices. Open up your search. See if you can use a broker. Sometimes that may be the best route. They find you the car you want. You pay them a flat fee. All numbers are done and ready for you sign and get the car.

It's been a few years since I've shopped for a car, and I don't know the 7 Series market or inventory. But there are definitely dealers out there that sell all of their allocation, and have no interest in making the "best deal", because then know that there will be another customer coming in the door that will pay more.

We had customers that would tell us what they wanted to spend on an item.
Sometimes we could help which is good.
And, sometimes we couldn't for various reasons.
The reason why is because a one time sale was not worth it to give something away at a razor thin margin.
Those deals were occasinally given to customers with the potential for repeat business.
When it comes to cars I'm awful at negotiating.
I let them make a little money, but not huge money off me.
I always feel I could've done a little better, BUT maybe not. Lol

These cars don’t sell at all and BMW has MASSIVE incentives on them. So does MB on Sclass.
The only cars that may be hard to negotiate on is custom ordered M3/M4. Otherwise plenty of deals to be had.
The model for this dealer is not to have sales folk talk #s and leave it the old managers. You find this a lot at a Nissan/Toyota type place. Typically luxury dealers give their sales people more autonomy.
The sales manager didn’t even ask my name let alone know where I live. Don’t plan to be back there anytime soon.

Again a luxury dealer represents a BRAND and the people there earn a Salary besides commission. There is an expectation of basic customer service and some product expertise. Also I never stipulated that price is my only motivation. I didn’t even have opportunity to say much lol The dude just left with a snarky remark…..

I go to many dealers and for the most part it’s a decent experience especially with BMW. Every place has one bad apple though so i got one that day 🤷♂️
Yeah, that was not cool how they treated you.
