Default Roll back emission standards

Trump administration rolls back emission standards

Maybe Toyota should save the Tundra and Tacoma by killing the garbage turbo engines and bring back the mighty 5.7 V8 and the fabulous 2GR V6.

Pre-emptive warning to keep politics out of the discussion, or the thread will be closed.

The smart auto makers, like Toyota will continue to make vehicle vehicles that hit the emission standard currently in place.

People will still want great fuel economy. Maybe a hybrid V6 instead of hybrid 4s. I mean that would be nice.

Diesel is the answer to good MPG, plus has great low end power that perfectly matches Americans fear of redline.

Most Americans live in areas that are highly populated so flooring it to redline is rare for them. If you live where cows are your neighbors, have at it.

50.4mpg average fuel efficiency by 2031 wasn't so much about improving fuel efficiency of ICE but rather to force EV adoption to meet the standard which combined ICE/EV sales.

We'll soon discover consumer demand for EV absent (greatly reduced) government coercion and giveaways of taxpayer monies. My guess is that the word 'collapse' will apply to EV sales in the US.

I'm just going to guess that all those Tesla Ubers in New York city get floored from time to time.

You can floor it in a 45 for 1 gear

Bingo.
As a result of the forcing of a ludicrous mpg standard, vehicles started using more and more plastic even under the hood. Oil that has the weight of water leaving engines to die so much sooner than vehicles prior to cafe adoption. Start stop technology... ugh how I hate that. I'm glad none of my cars have it.

I'm also happy to hear that California's ridiculous law of gas cars being banned by 2035 has been scrapped.

EV sales aren't going to collapse, and this isn't going to have any significant impact.

What it's going to do is make manufacturers focus less on EVs. EVs were a LOSING branch of just about every manufacturer except maybe Tesla. I think Ford was losing $5,000 for every Mustang EV they produced. Toyota/Lexus lose a good amount of money for every EVs they made. Since the fuel efficiency target has been lowered, not only will EV production go down, this will make manufactures explore hybrids again. And hopefully it'll get manufacturers to ditch the stupid idea of removing a good sized displacement engine from a vehicle and replacing it with a small turbo motor majority of the public don't want.

Where is this 45% drop? Nationwide? Coastal cities? Nebraska? Mars?

I doubt if the car manufacturers will make huge pivots over this decision. They know that the next administration can make a very different decision in 3 years.

This is great news for all. Forced EPA numbers and EV's have hurt nearly every car maker, costing them dearly. Those high costs are passed down to the consumer through higher sticker prices on all cars. This will hopefully create some relief across the board.
