So I am helping my neighbor negotiate a replacement for her Ioniq 5 as it comes off lease. Inventory for EVs here locally is very poor. The dealers I have talked to have said people have been buying up EVs because of gas prices for sure.

They would only take $1,000 off the MSRP of a new Ioniq 5 and they would have to find one, none in stock.

Looking around at the brokers, yeah the deals on EVs and Hybrids have completely evaporated. Dramatic difference to where it was just 30 days ago. The brokers are not even quoting most EVs and all hybrids are unavailable.

So my own car search to replace the Pacifica is on hold until things change, unless we go with the GLS. Great deals on it and other "poor on gas" cars.

100%! Its not just that though, Mercedes has been heavily incentivizing the GLS the last couple months.

Sure they do. They need something big like the domestics.

BMW is working on something bigger than the X7 because people want a bigger vehicle.

the x9 is in response to the TX. But no one wants to directly respond to the domestics suvs. The customer base does not care to look any other way, regardless of how many recalls, known defects, or anything else. Just ask Jeep and Toyota.

That is only a rumor at this point. BMW has made no indication they are working on one. If it did happen, it wouldn't be until at least MY2030.

You think I don't have a bunch of people in that class I interact with and work on their cars for?

I know exactly what is going on out there and it sucks

I think your views based on your last few pages of post of what you called "Typical Americans", and claim of "I know exactly what is going on out there" in your world is Bizarre and then some. You are entitle to your opinion as I am mine.

I don't think as many people want size for the sake of size as you think, the size needs to offer a meaningful benefit.

As was said before the X7 is smaller than the GLS. The American SUVs are BOF, and they have different benefits but I don't see any chatter out in the MB world that people want a bigger vehicle than the GLS, many people complain the X7 is too small, myself included.

What works for an American automaker doesn't work for a german automaker like MB, they can sell the Yukon/Tahoe etc just here in the US, MB needs to be able to sell their vehicles all over the world and there isn't a market for a bigger vehicle worldwide. The Yukon/Escalade is only slightly larger than the GLS, how many buyers would buy that who wouldn't buy a GLS? Not many...not worth a whole other model that can only be sold here.

You could say that Cadillac and GM are missing buyers by not offering a vehicle like the GLS, because buyers like us exist that won't buy one of the bigger BOF SUVs they offer because they are too big with no benefit for us.

It does. The big domestics look better. GLS and X7 are invisible next to an Escalade, but that's my opinion.

Oh if Mercedes made a big and bossy SUV people would buy them. G class is too small too, but absolutely has its place.

The first GL class was more like I was talking about, in your face and butch. I remember the V8 version had a hugggge star exclusive to that trim.

To me, that appears larger than the GLS and wayyyyyyy less demure. I like the GLS but it has the appeal of an Enclave to me, just a way nicer one obviously.

Maybe, but I doubt they care. Profit margins are absolutely ridiculous on the big BOFs.
