Because the additional costs of ownership make the upside far less than it used to be to own a diesel. Towing power is about the only advantage left. There's a reason light diesels have largely left the US market. The Germans stopped selling them here. Ford and Ram dropped offering then in the 150/1500 trucks. You can basically know get diesels in the heavy duty pickups and the GM 1500 trucks(and suburban). The juice just isn't worth the squeeze.
I am not really sure what the performance merits are of each the gas vs bmw diesel. But it appears the diesel is cheaper to operate Likely will last longer. The fuel economy is superior in the BMW diesel.

Perhaps Florida needs better emissions testing?

20-30 years ago, yes absolutely. But the modern emissions equipment takes a way a ton of that fuel efficiency advantage. And the maintenance and repairs just decimate any savings over the lifetime of the vehicle. Virtually all of the automakers that sold light duty diesels in the US got caught cheating the emissions standards to reflect better MPG during the tests than what they could really accomplish with a compliant setup. That's why Stellantis/FCA, VW, et all had recalls and had to retune all the vehicles to get worse MPG and less power, and why most of them stopped offering diesels in the US. You can't buy a new BMW diesel here anymore, or a VAG diesel.
Coming to @Striker223 just rolled in garage hopefully much later than soon for a new fuel pump. 😆 Pretty sure the beater Prius ran out of gas today either before I made it to the gas station or definitely while at the station for sure because I had to restart it after filling up and I never shut it off. First click at the pump came after 11.6 gallons. Next slow click came after 11.957 gallons. I drove into the station in EV mode but I noticed maybe .3 -.5 mile prior to station I was in EV mode running 50mph which supposedly not possible. Anything under 45mph yeah but not above. So I drove easy to the station.
At the pump at some point while pumping the gas the hybrid battery got low and I think the engine tried to fire up to recharge the battery but didn’t have enough gas. I just know I had to restart the car after refueling after not shutting it off.
Not sure who’s toyota supplier for fuel pumps but they make some great fuel pumps. I test them all the time. 😆
The air quality was great behind Prius for final half mile prior to ⛽️ station 🙃.
Jesus lol!
OE is denso/hitachi and they make really good pumps, similar to AC compressors literally everyone once you have a nice enough car (even if not Japanese) has a good chance to use their stuff. All my pricy german cars have their pumps/conpressor, cheaper ones have Bosch

No it isn't, it's WAY more expensive to own a diesel unless you delete it.
That's awesome.
My VW rabbit diesel got near 50 mpg, if I remember.
Problem is they used such a small engine that was too weak for the car and made it unenjoyable to drive.
I'd rather get a little less mpg, bigger diesel engine, and have a car that has some gusto!
They are super weak stock that's for sure, a stage two tune gets them bearable and if you have a manual is always fun! That's honestly what saves it for me, that and because you don't need to rev much to move unlike a typical small 4 that needs 6k to move reasonably.

I never knew diesels could be fast.
Then I saw the bad guys in Fast and Furious were driving them, (can't remember which movie in the series).

Can’t go wrong with Denso!! Prius is made in 🇯🇵 Japan. It’s our beater. Gets beater treatment 💀
