I had to turn auto start stop off of my rental a few times. I didn’t feel comfortable with it turning the engine off while I was preparing to make a left-hand turn…
I coded off start/stop on the Supra (Bimmer) and I coded the fake sound off but now the car is TOOO QUIET unless it’s in sport mode and I’m downshifting and the exhaust crackles and pop or I’m giving it pretty good amount gas.
With that being said, I’m going to turn fake sound back on and/or let the modding begin because it’s too quiet.

I’m also going to see what I can code on the X7
We have people down here that love to do the decelerate backfire pops as they are passing.
Blat, blat, blat... Pop
Oh yeah, makes my day haha
On most models there's literally a button on the center console for it, right above the start button. Here's the current X5:
Mine has actually never been enabled a single time since I picked it up 18 months ago. It wouldn't bother me (only activates when the car is in neutral and the clutch is not depressed), but it was set that way from new and I haven't changed it.
They definitely appear to be headed that way though, as the new 7 series and X3 center consoles no longer have the button.

I like my cars quiet so no fake engine noise for me.
But the thing is even if I did want to hear the engine. I want the noise to be authentic not fake. And I hate this stupid noises that EVs make.
I'm always forgetting and hitting the button to turn it off, even after a year and a half of driving it.
Start stop really is the most god awful thing in existence. I can't imagine it in a cheap car.
when properly implemented it's really not an issue, the 48V benzes (450, 580, etc...) probably have the most seamless action i've encountered since they just whirr into life in the same way a prius does
in stop and go traffic though it can be a pain and i'll usually turn it off if i happen to be driving my parents GLE in such a situation, i just wish it would wait until you've actually fully stopped to cut the engine! the car can stumble sometimes when going through a stop sign, steve idk if your S580 improves on this but i imagine being der sonderklasse everything is just that little bit smoother lol
Interesting video showing a teardown of a 6.2 GM truck engine. These bearing failures are pretty common on the Gen V 6.2's. Total carnage. If the NHTSA follows through and forces GM to do the right thing, it'll be a much bigger scandal than the Toyota engine failures. @Striker223@AJT123
Ours has 30k miles on it, I'm guessing it would have blown by now if it were an affected engine. But who knows.
Check your filter and see what's going on.....
These failures are common across brands for the same reason, Honda has been suffering the same issue across many engines. The Toyota problem is a bit different, that's not an oil/fuel contamination issue with you burn out a main.
The rod bearings falling like they are on Honda/GM is the expected failure mode for oil shearing down over a long OCI with too much fuel contamination.
So @BayeauxLex I was a light bully today to an X5 . Off the line I'm faster, maybe rolling the outcome would be more even. You BMW owners are competitive, I must say 🤣It's a pretty spirited vehicle for a big SUV

It's crazy. GM, Honda AND Toyota/Lexus. Things are just made shyytyy these days, it's unacceptable. I pray our mid 2000s Whilrpool fridge never breaks because we'll be stuck with some new POS.
The old iron 5.3L in the 2003 Yukon will last as practically as long as a Toyota V8, absolutely unstoppable. I assume we'll get a good service life out of this one. But I sure hope it doesn't blow. I'm taking it to the dealer next week and will mention it.
