You might not feel that way if it was somebody you cared about or you. People get hit by cars without it being their fault all the time.

The truth is a lot of thought goes into the regulation of vehicle design to improve safety for everyone, drivers, pedestrians etc. As it should be. We don’t need pointy things on cars that can hurt people.

To this day nobody knows why or how my grandma was fiddling with the shifter and made it go in reverse.

Maybe it popped into neutral, nobody knows but her Caddy had those sharp pointy tips and she smashed hard into the car behind her.

My dad told me about it, I probably wasn't born yet. Lol

It happens! Shifter design is another big issue IMO

Probably super easy for them since thats all they had. I visited family who operate some farm trucks that use the "three on the tree" style shift sequence. Till this day have not figured neutral, reverse, or engage gears.

It happened before skateboards were even invented. Ralph Nader's game-changing book Unsafe At Any Speed documented a kid getting fatally gored by a Caddy's taillight while playing touch football. GM's response was to hire a private gumshoe to tail Nader and nose around for discredting dirt on the author, only to get embarrassingly busted in a very public Congressional hearing. Not the General's finest hour.

If I were the kid's dad, I probably wouldn't feel all that casual about how the stupid kids deserved to die anyway. I did lots of stupid things as a kid, but I'm not sure they deserved the death penalty without a trial. How about you?

That's awesome and not surprising. I don't believe personally that MB discontinued the mono wiper for any other reason to cut costs, as the E-Class build quality went downhill after the W210. I've never even heard of a Monowiper breaking. The last of the tank 90's era Mercedes had the mono wiper, I believe the last one sold with it was either my car or the 1st gen CLK at the beginning of the century 2002ish. And, those old CLKs and E classes I see are junky looking lots of the time but are still running and out there lol.

It's a shame my car is a garage queen and I never really get it wet bc the wiper is one of my favorite things. One thing I did hear is that it mesmerized drivers and that's another reason they axed it, I'm not sure if that is true or not but I could imagine it. It just looks so cool.

I'm sure they axed it just for cost savings...

Nice rig. Did they have the previous gen V6? What vehicle are they coming from? I’m not surprised it tows well. Turbos gives you some grunt down low that you may think you will miss by going with a smaller engine. I’m sure the hybrid helps as well.

Interesting. Ordinarily, one would think that a single wiper-system would be less-complex and less-expensive to produce than a dual-wiper system...and I have seen some Jaguars (not recent ones) with THREE wipers on the windshield.

Want to see something else interesting? Remember the Camry wagons....before they were discontinued after 1996? They had a double-wiper on the REAR window. Some consider that-generation Camry to be the best one ever built...and I agree.

The hubster’s old FJ Cruiser had 3 wipers as well — never had a car that 3 wipers before. This was right before we traded it in for his current Tundra limited.
