Here's the winter weather I was talking about. Couldn't see the lines on the road. Only about 3 inches of precipitation, but the low was 23, so it froze hard and was very slick. The high today was only 35, and with the low being 15 tonight, anything that melted will freeze again. Very glad he got the AWD. It really handled it well. Might pick up some chains for the future, just in case we get something worse. Just to be extra safe.

Glad to know our Tesla's handle icy roads like a champ!

Yeah those are super dangerous road conditions.

AWD EVs have a lot of advantages in the snow. I wouldn’t bother with chains.

That thin layer of slimy and very slick snow and ice on the road is actually very dangerous, way more dangerous than 6-7 inches of powdery snow on the road. It’s almost like driving on grease.

We had 8 inches of snow here and I was out and about, but it was powdery and not really slick at all. That’s much less of an issue than what Bob is showing above.

I grew up driving in the mountains of WV remember, I’m no stranger to snow driving.

Where I am the climate has drastic temperature changes we get it all. It's way more dangerous going from Chinook conditions to -10°C in a day or two which happens several times per winter. If you don't have proper winter tires and/or are not used to it then you should probably stay home.

Yeah, we normally get a combo of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. And it only happens about once every 5 or so years. Nobody has snow tires, and the roads other than major bridges aren't treated because we don't have the equipment. My neighborhood is moderately hilly, and several cars were stuck in the dips because they couldn't get up the hill after sliding down the other side. Lots of cars and trucks in ditches. Cars sliding everywhere at intersections. Best to just stay home and let it melt, but that's not always an option for everyone.

The Model 3 AWD in chill mode did well. Definitely worth the extra few thousand along with the other upgrades that come with the LR AWD.

Model Y AWD with winter tires is about as good as it gets the extra weight + EV motor traction control

Here's some challenging conditions quite a bit of snow and slick surface due to warm weather a few days ago. The bus was a beached whale.

The big concern to me around here is everybody else on the road. You have two sets of people out there, ones driving 15 MPH with their flashers on just because it’s snowing and people doing 80 in SUVs when that’s totally absurd with conditions. People around here anymore just don’t know how to drive in the snow because we so rarely get any.

Down south right now it’s really a disaster because they are just not equipped at all to handle this weather.

The rwd doesn't have the ambient lights, it has less speakers, it doesn't have that soft swede like materials on the inside of the doors. Obviously less power

If there’s a chance of snow, schools close, roads close. We don’t know how to handle nor drive in snow.

Years ago I was in Kansas for work and it snowed overnight. Next morning attempted to drive my little beater Nissan hardbody to work 15 min away. Within a few feet leaving the hotel I was sliding all over the place. I called work and told them I’ll see them on Monday. It was Wednesday or Thursday. I didn’t go anywhere until Monday.
