This is a big issue with these engines that just kind of came out of nowhere. There are many many many problem free Pentastars running around though.
Looks like it has been known for quite sometime. There is a class action lawsuit or proposed . Now the plug in Pacificas have a fire issue where owners have been told not to plug them in. And some ferry’s have banned them.

Its been the last 2-3 years which is strange since the Pentastar has been around since 2010.
Earlier plug in Pacificas have always had sporadic fire issues, mine isn't included in that (up to 2021)
This is what I mean... When you have a god awful engine like the Sienna, or in any vehicle... you're stuck with it every second you use the vehicle. Every time you hit the gas, every time you pull out in traffic, every time you are on the interstate.
These downsized four cylinders that are faster than the lovely engines they replaced... that's great that they have performance numbers to back it up.
It's living with an engine for 6 figure mileage that's the issue, who gives a flip if it can lay down similar or better numbers.

I want pleasantness and satisfaction.
But there are many consumers to whom that doesn't matter. Lots of Siennas around with delighted owners, including my office admin. For them they care about the fuel economy and not really the feel and performance of the vehicle. Toyota has sought to zero in on those consumers and you can't really blame them.
Once you get used to turbo power, NA 6 cyls like the 2GR seem slow because you need to get them over 4k RPM to get their power band. So even for me probably at this point I would rather have a turbo 4 than a NA V6.

.
Sure-- I'm just saying it goes the other way, too, with more performance oriented vehicles in a lot of cases. And in cases when people actually do care. The 0-60 time of that Sienna is fine, that said.

Yea as much as I loved the big 3 Japanese V6's, they could feel slow at times.
Porsche had a 3.6L V6 with 295 lb ft @ 3,000 rpm. Must have been a long stroke/undersquare design to get peak torque at 3k. Probably felt better in daily driving.

The Sienna 0-60 is faster than the gas Pacifica. The Sienna is fine

Totally, that’s why there are options. One option wins out though and in this day and age it’s the fuel economy because that’s what most mainstream buyers want.

It’s fine sure, But the gas Pacifica has better passing power without a doubt. I know I had two and I extensively test drove the Sienna. Even unloaded the Pacifica feels more powerful when merging and when passing at 70-80 MPH. That’s one area where the gas Pacifica also feels more powerful than my PHEV Pacifica.
