A separate windshield washer button that does not active the wipers would be a really terrible idea. No way would safety regulations be ok with that

Exactly. Until I had the S560 with the magic vision control I never thought about it, but after that I found the split second blindness when the washer sprays in other cars disconcerting.

With the "deep clean" function on the S580, it will sit there when stopped and let it dwell for 15-20 seconds, but when you move forward it immediately wipes to clear the windshield.

We all know that GM has had pretty much the same thing, called Wetarm, for over 40 years, right?

No, it's not quite as sophisticated as this and you did see some washer spray, but it worked well.

Its not nearly as sophisticated as these wipers. GM cars have long had "sprayers" in the wiper arms that spray the fluid from the arm, but it sprays behind the arms and still blinds the driver and its not nearly as precise as these.

It doesn't blind you or anything like that, but yes you'll see some spray on your windshield while it's going.

MB should have never abandoned the Monowiper, it's like my favorite thing about the car or at least one of them.

the mono wiper is cool. I wonder what the pros and cons are of it. Wonder if any modern vehicles still have it.

Pros:
-It gets 87% of the windscreen, more than in regular cars
-Wipes fast and clean, you don't really notice it
-excellent rain sensor
-works better than having 2 wipers
-it just looks cool how it pivots, coming at you down the street probably looks pretty cool

Cons, there aren't many. I suspect it was cost cutting mainly, the reason it's gone:
-It does splash into drive throughs, I found that out today... but I just turned it off.
-wiper blade can be hard to find to replace
-on some MBs apparently the wiper makes the entire car shimmy side to side, none of that here so IDC.
-the washer fluid spray is nothing special at all, unlike the new tech. That said, the spray will clean the window very very well.

No it didn't! God that system was/is annoying, it always freaking leaks, sprays weird, or blows the hose off!

Most of ours were in cars that hid the wipers when not in use. I haven't really heard widespread complaints. The '03 GMC had it but the new one doesn't actually.

I forgot about those. The wipers would hide. So cool. Your 03 GMC had that?
