Tesla Full Self Driving Thread
The system no longer requires you to keep your hands on the wheel if you have HW4 in the newer Tesla models.
The camera checks if your eyes are on the road, though it lets you look at the screen briefly.
I have only noticed sometimes, during heavy rain or construction, it will give me a message on the screen that vision based monitoring may be disabled and to keep my hands close to the wheel.

My friend claims he watches Netflix on his way to work using a cell phone holder that he attaches to the back of the Model 3's screen. Says he won't ever go back to driving himself. Kinda sad for a guy who has an S2000, NSX, 997 GT3 and some sport bike rotting in his garage

We've also had a large thread on cars possibly detecting and reporting drivers for violations. I think this is already somewhat starting to play out, just not the way most of us were predicting - new cars are being equipped with kill switches, GPS trackers, and cameras that monitor drivers. There are also a bunch of speed cameras installed all over the roads, as well as AI cameras with face recognition, in Australia for instance they have AI cameras that issue seat belt tickets.
i think there will be a real lock down on max speed limits soon. i am 100% in favor of declaring cars that can go 150+ should not be able to go 150+ on public roads for example.
I understand Tesla already issues demerits when it detect improper use of its "Full Self Driving. Supervised", from temporary disabling of the feature, to full on ban? So while I might have expressed my points in a dramatically sarcastic way, I am not far off. With everything that has been transpiring, we're not that far away from being "clean it up wagie" for self driving cars, lol.
What I find interesting is that long time members of CL who use FSD daily are full of bullshit while stuff they see and read online is the gospel as long as it meets their narrative. But that's human nature I guess, to wallow in ones own narrow worldview
I think the most pressing issue facing FSD is not the highway or street driving, but maneuvering at destinations. You can input an address that's in a strip mall or something, and it will know how to get there, but it often takes a longer entrance or exit because it doesn't know the roads inside the large parking lot. In addition, when it finds its own parking, it usually chooses a spot far away or not in an ideal location to the destination. I don't blame the system, but these will be hard things to solve.

So true ^^
my most recent experiences with 14.3.3 and parking lots have been very positive - had to go to AAA the other day to renew the tags for one of our Lexuses, visited the grandkids and have had a few trips to a couple of local stores where the entire trips from our driveway to parking up at the destination were all 100% handled by FSD. No issues parking either end, it backed into a good spot at AAA and it found good spots close to the entrance at the stores and parked more than competently, front first. One of our local stores has multiple entrances, and from our home the most efficient route there and the most efficient route back are different route there than you do to head back home. FSD/nav continues to choose the right place to enter the lot and the right place to exit the lot (they are different). Only minor thing I have experienced so far on 14.3.3 was a light brake stab once or twice as it decides how to handle traffic. That was a new artifact and has been reported elsewhere. The only reason I don't have a 100% FSD streak this week is we are having work done at home and I'm choosing to park on a different part of our drive than FSD usually chooses, so I disengage right as we get to our house and park manually. Otherwise this week has been FSD all the way.
