Don’t you live in California? I mean if you warm your car up every morning which I would do with no garage then sure, you burn about a quarter gallon of fuel per quarter of an hour.

How cold does it get where you are?

Because I know you won't actually Google it, here are some results:

AAA:

https://magazine.northeast.aaa.com/d...wer-in-winter/

Winter is the harshest of seasons, at least when it comes to the weather. And that excess strain extends to our cars. Frigid temperatures, snow, ice and freezing rain can take quite a toll on vehicles. One of the most prominent effects cold weather has on cars is a drop in fuel economy. Simply put, a drop in temperature goes hand-in-hand with a drop in miles-per-gallon.

https://www.cnbc.com/2014/02/14/cold...s-mileage.html

If it seems like your fuel economy has been lower than normal this winter, it’s not your imagination.

Like people, cars find it harder to get through a cold winter, which is especially true for the latest generation of battery-based vehicles.

New research from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory found that some models can lose as much as a third of their fuel economy when the mercury drops to 20 degrees. And the colder the weather or shorter the trip, the bigger the drop.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg...Google it.

I really don’t want to get into it any more.

You guys are all pro-ev and I’m not so it’s pretty pointless.

Ive just talked to my whole family in Roc, most of our friends, and my father who lived in Chicago. None of them think that’s a thing. I don’t care what government websites say.

This is not about being Pro or Anti-EV, in fact it has nothing to do with that. This is about putting facts out there that are accurate. Its simply a fact that ICE cars lose fuel economy in the cold.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but not their own facts

It's nothing to do with electric vehicles, it's grade-level physics.

Not freaking 20% that is the biggest load I’ve ever heard.

Like I said, do some research. Yes 20%. I have experienced that myself, I get approximately that much less range when traveling in the cold vs traveling in the summer. Obviously its less of an issue in an ICE car because you can just fuel it up.

Cold weather inefficiency is absolutely a thing and it's death by a thousand cuts. Lots of things contribute to overall inefficiency. One example that the article correctly highlights is that short trip cold-engine fuel economy is absolutely dismal. The first few miles of dismal cold-engine economy will have a lesser impact on a longer trip, but on a short trip you might absolutely see trip economy that's easily 50% or more lower than your regular average mileage. Again, this is grade school physics. Well chemistry too, as it's chemical energy we're talking about. But mostly physics.

All of us here own both, ICE and EV's in this sub forum, including myself (2013 Sienna), so I don't know what being pro EV has to do with this

Let me guess though…..cold weather DOESN’T affect range 20% in an EV?

Yes, cold weather does affect EV range, nobody said it doesn't. 20 percent is the extreme. In my case it's more like 5 percent because we don't have extreme cold

20-33%????

Enough, I don’t want to argue on here there are other awful forums for that.

I’m not anti EV, I’m anti government push.

Everyone enjoy what you have.

You're talking about older EV's. All the newer EV's have heat pumps that are highly efficient. In my case, max 4 to 5 percent
