Good luck to you on the rest of your trip
Trip home wasn’t bad but not great either. My trip home was only about 90 miles of range and I supposedly had 120
miles of range and when putting in the destination it had me stopping at a supercharger. I was going to chance making it without stopping but the car told me I would have to drive under 60mph to make it which wouldn’t happen when the speed limit home was 65mph.

So on the way home I stopped at the supercharger it recommended and similar to the night before all the superchargers (8 of them) were all taken and there was already one other car waiting. Luckily I only had to wait 5 minutes for one to open up. So charging to add another 35 miles of range took me 15 minutes which wasn’t bad so it added 20 minutes to a short hour and a half trip, not really ideal for a short trip. The issue I had is if I really needed to charge up to 80% for a longer trip I would be sitting there for a long long time, at least an hour.

I'm curious why it takes so long for you to charge to 80 percent, it takes me about 25 minutes from say 10 percent to 80 percent on a 250 kW. Supposably the Model S has the same charging curve as my Model Y. Initially it will say 40 minutes, but then end up being 25 minutes. Only if the battery is cold will it take longer.

Hopefully they build out charging infrastructure more in your area, because it sounds like you guys really need it. This is a typical stop for me heading to Southern Cal, you are only seeing one section, its actually 3x larger than the pic shows:

And this is a typical Tesla Super Charger in SoCal, again you are only seeing one section, it goes around the whole area outer parking area:

going to be interesting to see how that goes when all other brands can charge there too.

Definitely, because the ones in SoCal get near capacity. The good thing though is the Tesla app manages in real time, if it sees super chargers filling up, it will suggest another nearby location. It will also show you waiting time, if applicable

something sounds way off with your trip planning and charging speed / time. do you know the kw speed of charging you were getting to only add 35mi in 15 minutes?
i went from 30-80% in that time in my Ioniq at an EA charger. (avg of 25mi. per 10% means i added 125mi. in 15 minutes).

no question one has to plan and also plan contingencies before embarking on an ev adventure, even in a tesla.

It sounds like he was at the 120KW chargers. There are some here in Ontario like that.

Or he could have been at a 75 kW charger, which there are still some here. You find those mostly at malls where people go for lunch and a quick top off

It was another 150kw/hr charger and I guess when all the stalls are being used maybe it makes it that much slower.

Here is a screenshot of the chargers near where I was. I used the Harrisburg and York chargers, both 150kw.

Especially if someone is in the adjacent # stall. If you were in 2A for example and someone was in 2B . The load is distributed/shared between the two chargers.

That's the answer, when someone is next to you sharing like Hameed said, you drop to 75kW, which explains why it's taking 45 minutes. Which is why I will drive a little further to 250 kW chargers, which btw don't share power. But it seems in your circumstance you didn't have a choice due to limited Tesla chargers. Had you hit a 250kW, you would have been out of there no more than 25 minutes, or even a lone 150 kW, maybe 30 minutes

They are too far apart. The one night I was going to drive to a 250kw charger it would cost me 40 minutes going there and back without adding in charge time to where I was. The crazy thing is is down further in my screenshot the one in Baltimore was only 72kw, crazy!
