I prefer the styling of the Higland over the outgoing 3, the S definitely looks better than both(and should, it's the premium product of the brand). The Y's proportions just have never sat well with me. I think Tesla would have been better served making an all new body style for the Y rather than just making a taller Model 3.
I really disagree with the decision to get rid of the stalks for turn signals and wipers, I think there's value in keeping controls that have been standardized across the industry for decades. Moving it to a button on the wheel for no reason other than to be quirky is foolish and immature, IMO. I feel similarly about replacing the instrument panels with having all information displayed on a center-mounted tablet. ICE automakers are also making cars worse this way by moving as many controls as possible into touch screens.
having both 2021 Model 3P and 2023 Model S, I think the most unnatural thing is horn, which is fixed in Highland.
You get used to blinkers, and by now, automatic selection of gear works almost perfectly. So now when I sit in my wifes 21 M3P, my hands go to screen and with stalks it ends up feeling weird.

As I mentioned earlier, removal of stalks at first got me shaking my head, but after driving the Model X with no stalks, it wasn't a big deal, I got used to it quickly. It was the horn that was the biggest issue:
There's no way you are going to be able to find and hit the horn when you need it. Thank God they put a proper horn in the Highland
How Tesla allowed that epically stupid horn button to go into production is beyond me. And how is that legal? Tesla has regulators breathing down their neck like some creep at the carnival but allow that horn button to be legal.

There's no way that horn can be legal. In a panic situation when someone is backing into or changing lanes into you, you'll never get to use it. Everything else you just re-adjust

It is in fact legal, the car is certified for sale.
I worded that wrong. I should have wrote it probably shouldn't be legal. It's unideal at the very least
Way too kind that button is hot GARBAGE. No human can reliably hit that tiny button in a panic situation it is in fact a safety hazard. Tesla is all about safety their cars are the best in the world for surviving a crash. And then they do that.

Unbelievable.
The good news is that it didn't carry over to the new Model 3, so someone at Tesla got the memo

if you put your palm over the right hand controls, it will also blow the horn..... but... it will quite possibly also swipe once with wipers, which makes it annoying for me.

The bottom line is a stalk is just a better design, like a horn pad in the center of the steering wheel is a better design. There is no need to change something that works for everyone just to change it. If people didn't want a turn signal stalk there wouldn't be an aftermarket solution. "The buttons aren't so bad" is not an endorsement. The buttons are an answer to a question nobody asked.
All of the stuff I would need to buy to make a Tesla like a regular car reminds me of when I was 6 and I used to put stuff on my Power Wheels to make it like a real car lol.
Steering wheel should be a wheel, turn signals should be on a stalk, horn should be the center of the steering wheel, I want my speed reflected in front of my line of sight...I can have a Tesla that does all that stuff just depending on the model I have to buy a bunch of aftermarket stuff to make it do that. Asinine.

I totally agree with you. Taking the stalks away is totally unnecessary. That said, they are damn good cars, which is why people like @patgilm is contemplating buying another Plaid, although he has a ton of other choices. Same with @ST430 , he sold his Model S Plaid and bought a Model X Plaid...which also has no stalks
Great cars, I just object to the engineering choices that are for ego instead of actually improving the car.
I can't argue with you on that. If it makes it better, than do it, just don't reinvent the wheel. Removing the stalks doesn't really improve things, but my thoughts are these are geared towards a future self driving car where there will be limited interaction between driver and vehicle
