Default Hard to remove gas cap

Lately it's been very hard to remove my gas cap to fill up the tank anyone know why this happens?

Is it just tight or is there a vacuum holding it down?

I'm guessing both. Right now I just close the cap just before I hear the first click.

You should close it until it clicks, that much I do know.

Since its been warmer it's easier to take the cap off. I'm guessing the winter and cold made it hard to take off.

Do you hear air rushing into the filler when you unscrew the cap (that would be a vacuum - possibly a clogged charcoal filter). Otherwise, you might just need to pump some iron!

Our 2001 RX has the hardest to remove gas cap. My wife can't do it at all!
Her sister has the exact same year RX and it's fine! I even bought a new cap
and it's just as difficult to remove as the OE cap

How about swapping the gas-caps from your wife's to her sister's. If the problem does not travel then look at the filler-neck.

Also try removing the cap after a while [one or two days sitting in the garage]. The system is not totally air-tight. As fuel is used the tank does get air in. The monitor for leaks (slow evap leak) is calibrated for this.

We did that years ago. It's gotta be our filler neck although there are no problems when putting on the cap or after the initial seal breaks(what seems like a vacuum seal) It's hard to unscrew!
