I bought Powertrix Styling and Performance Coilovers for my LS 400 1999. My friend, who is going to help me install them, asked a good question: for the rear, can we install them by taking out the back panel in the truck and go through that way or do we need to take out the rear interior/seats to be able to get to where we need to be?

We have installed coilovers on many nissan z's but never a lexus. For those with the experience can you please give me some idea of how to get the rear coilovers in from either the interior or if we can go through the trunk. If we do need to go through the interior, how hard is it to remove the rear seating? Any help will be appreciated because it will end up saving us time when we have to do the install.

 

check out lexls.com some good info. The rear seats are pretty easy to remove just a couple of bolts. I had to remove the rear seats to remove the rear suspension im pretty sure thats the same for every ls400

 

ok it's gonna take some figuring out. how long did it take you on average to install all of your coilovers?

 

if you have right tools, you can do it in a couple of hours!

 

cool because i just can't afford to have it down for an entire day or two days. i originally was told that we can access the rear suspension through the trunk by removing the back liner in the trunk. i am also told that it can be done by taking out the back seats which seem like it would be a pain cuz they are huge and assume heavy. which is the better route?

 

taking back seats is a 10 min job. I´ve done it alone with no problem. If you have a buddy with ya, it would be even faster. There is no other way you can take off the old suspension !

you have to pull the backseat to access the top hats. just pull the bottom of the back seat out, unbolt the upper back seat out and just tilt it forward. the rear deck itself doesn't need to come out. no need to take it out the car cause you don't need a great deal of room. it should only be 2 or 3 nuts up top and one on the bottom. total install for front and rear should only be about 2-3 hours max.

 

Perfect. Now, stupid question. How do i start to pull out the bottom of the back seats?

 

lift it up from the front of it. it pops up then pull forward. oh yeah as a heads up don't forget to unplug the abs sensors it's a few 10mm bolts. them things are fairly sensitive and are pricey.

Where's the wire to disconnect the abs sensors? I just dont want to start to pull out the back seats and then opps and **** up

the abs sensors are near the suspension itself. for the front it runs down the upper control arm all the way down to the back of the rotor area. the rear runs along one of the arms as well.
