Default 1st mod decision

This is my first post and I would like to say this is one of the most informative sites I have ever visited. The vast range of knowledge by the members is just incredible. Over a year ago I purchased a 1999 black on black GS400 and I love the car. In doing my research prior to the purchase, I considered many cars; BMW, MB, VOLVO,INFINITY,etc. finally buying the LEXUS. The mix of luxury, performance and for me equally important the build quality, the Lexus was #1. I believe I have just entered a new hobby and over time I would like to do some modifications. I don't think I will do extreme modifications but I would like to start with a suspension upgrade and I would like some advice. Considering the L-tune shocks and springs with steering ECU versus TEIN HA (with possible E.D.F.C.). I live near Toronto, Ontario in Canada and find it very hard to get anybody with a lot of knowledge (especially my local Lexus dealer). I haven't been able to locate anyone locally that has done the L-tune route to see if it really makes a difference (noticeable) compared to stock set up. I would like to maintain some semblance of the ride quality and I don't drive the car in the winter (4 months anyway). Wheels are chrome 17". My goal is to eliminate the body roll (mostly) and have it handle a lot more sporty.

Any opinion would be appreciated.

Thank you

Default Go with L-tuned setup with trd sways

hey,
I suggest l-tuned springs, shocks with trd sways. You won't regret it. It will still be very comfortable but responsive ride and body roll will be vertually eliminated. And cost won't be too harsh on your wallet either. Good luck on your decision.

Sports,

A (no longer new exactly ) member to CL is named Hameed and I believe is located near Ontario.

Click here for a link to pics of his car. He's just completed a number of handling modifications including L-tuned suspension to his GS. Would be a great contact for you.

I'll send him a PM to look at this thread.

Thank you for the quick reply. Will it make a big difference adding the TRD sways to the l-tuned suspension (shocks, springs) and steering ECU as opposed to the same thing without the sway bars?
I wasn't planning on the sways but if it will mean a considerable improvement I will consider.

Thank you. Quick question - How do I stay in the same'thread' and just post a new message without the original 'quote' in the body of my new post?

Sway will make significant difference. I initially had just l-tuned setup only for awhile and just added sways. Ask anyone here and you will get same answer, which is sway WILL make big difference in handling.
Again, ask hameed and may be you guys can meet and try to ride with him get the feel of it for yourself.
good luck

gs4 has quite a bit of power, so take care the suspension first...and trd sways will help you A LOT...not sure your tolerance on ride quality, the white TRD sportivo set is also a good choice compare to the blue race version..cannot go wrong with either

I live in Mississauga, Ontario. Where do you live?

I would love to meet you and share my knowledge (what little I know) and demo my car to a new member of CL such as yourself. I also have a 99 GS400 (just bought it three months ago!).

I have done the L-tuned mods to my car - springs/shocks, TRD sways, TRD front LCB, Toms rear LCB, steering ECU etc.

You can drive my car if you wish and see the difference for yourself.

I just sent you a pm with my phone numbers.

I have been dying to meet locals with GS400's and there seems to be virtually noone here in Canada on these forums, other than apanju who has not done any mods to his car. So it would be nice to talk to a local with the same interests!

Regards,
Hameed

Mario, to reply without quoting just use the big 'post reply' button near the top right of the page (a blue button).

Yes, it will make a BIG difference adding sways. Don't get me wrong, both suspension pieces you mention and sways are very good mods and I would personally recommend doing the suspension pieces you are considering first and getting used to it. They also IMO improve the looks of the car by lowering it a bit.

Default thank you members

Thank you very much to all the members that have replied to my questions. This website is an excellent idea and I will always use the expertise of all of you prior to my decisions for all of my possible "car improvements". I will be contacting Hameed for sure as we live approx. 1 hour away from each other. I am very interested to hear where he got all of his upgrades done. I appreciate his offer for the 'test drive'.
I'll keep in touch.

Mario
