Default Question regarding rear suspension removal.

Quick question: When removing the rear struts how come the manual says to loosen the top hat but not remove it fully??

Honestly, it doesn't matter. I usually just completely remove them. There is enough spring force that it wont' come crashing down on you. In fact you have to force it out anyways.

That's what I meant. You have to push down the hub because the spring is sprung enough that it's not going to fall out of the car. You have to force it out by pulling down on the hub and somehow wrestle it.

Remove the camber bolt and it should be a lot easier to remove the assembly if you pull down the LCA.

well...some ppl would remove the camber bolt....the lower shock bolt....and the end-link bolt....and drop the lower suspension arm. when you do this...if you remove ALL the nuts from the top hat...it will fall straight down and can hurt you.

I normally remove 2 nuts...and leave 1 nut loosened so there's no chance of the shock falling.

It's probably easier to have all the top nuts taken off, while leaving the two shock body bolts slightly loose. That way you can the two nuts off while holding the shock. It beats running back to the trunk to remove the nut while leaving the shock assembly unattended.

I suppose there are multiple ways to accomplish the same feat
