TPMS oddities
Hey there,
On Tuesday here, it was a bit on the cool side in the morning, so when I went to go to work the TPMS indicator in my '07 SC illuminated.
Pulling back in the driveway, all the tires were around 25 psi, which admittedly is fairly low.
So, I topped them up to 33 psi as indicated on the door jam and went to work.
LOML and I are having a house built in Williamsburg. So typically we go down there (we live in Northern VA) on Friday morning to meet with the contractor and various sub's.
Yesterday we were about halfway there when the TPMS light started blinking. It did that for a while and then was lit continuously.
We stopped at a rest stop for a bio brake, and just for fun I decided to check the pressure in the tires. I just figured that at 15 years old the batteries in the senders where going, going, gone.
Checking pressure, they were all over 37 psi. I guess the tires had heated up and the air expanded. Interesting. I didn't think anything of it, so we got back to the car and completed our trip down.
At the end of our meetings, we decided to visit the lot, and look at some of the neighboring homes as we are getting ready to do a HOA submittal for the house build. While there, I reduced the pressure for the tires to all under 35 psi and we left.
The TPMS light was still lit, but again about halfway home, it went out, and stayed out.
Checking the pressure this morning they were all just slightly shy of 33 psi.
Doing some innerweb spelunking, some cars offer over pressurization warnings with the TPMS. I couldn't find any reference that the SC does or doesn't, but certainly my experience would indicate that it does.
take care,

If those are the original sensors you are lucky. Most don't last more than 10 years. Some a lot less. But to answer your question, I don't think our sensors have any kind of over inflation warning.
By the way, your sensors are the first year they went to the newer sensors that are not hard to find. they are not color coded like 06 and before.

Don't, as of yet, have a Techstream.
Will have to bite the bullet at some point.
The challenge is finding the right one to work with my car and available laptop.
Chances are I won't be replacing them anytime soon, even if they fail though. I just had the tires put on the car a year ago.
Not going to pay to have the tires removed and senders replaced.
When I upgrade the wheels/tires, I'll get them replaced.
That prolly won't be until next summer.

Well, the other shoe dropped yesterday.
We were driving to Williamsburg and the TPMS indicator started flashing and then came on solid.
Checking pressures at the rest stop indicated they were spot on.
The car is over 15 years old, so I can't complain. That's about when the senders on my 2005 Pilot died.
I'll prolly just live with it for now. I was looking at the tires this morning and I'll most likely it be changing them in the not to distant future.
I did get a Techstream, so I'll see which one it is.
Cheers

The iCarSoft i905 will also read the TPMS battery voltages as well as any other codes. Including the retractable top.
What it wont do is a lot compared to Techstrean S/W. I would like Techstream someday, but I just haven't been able to get myself to deal with the hassle one more time. Someday. When I need a key programmed or what not I will deal with my hatred of computers after working on them for 35 years to get it configured and working. It's more of a mental block!🤣

Its so simple and almost flawless…I ditched my old 32bit XP laptop and installed it on a Win10 64bit laptop.
Are you or anyone else interested in the video install procedure with software?
LOL. Sir, I believe you. I saw the video. And personally I will do it. Someday. I believe that it (setting up Techstream) should be a sticky. But I just have not needed it to be perfectly honest. The convenience of the i905 scanner is what makes it my go to diagnostic tool. Remember. No garage. So the hassle of pulling out the laptop, cables etc. have made me delay settling it up. I am NOT trying to discourage anyone else. Quite the opposit actually. BUT, with that said, opening up the center console no matter where I'm at and having the ability to scan her to me, is invaluable. 😉
