Which Rear Camera Interface
Aloha all, I’m searching for input on which rear camera interface is best and most functional as well as ease of install. I’m really missing the rear camera in my recently purchased 2010 SC430. I have done a good bit of research on this forum as well as the interwebs and have found NAVIKS, NAV TOOL, and NAV-TV, with price range from $369 to $799. A camera is not included these are only the interface; I have already purchased a CrimeStopper CAM-400 and lic plate bracket so just need the interface and will be doing the install myself.
I don’t see any differences in 2001-2005 and 2006-10 as far as connecting the interface to the stock NAV DVD player. I know my cars NAV is an updated GEN6 but all connections/wiring seems to be same?
Any input on which system you installed and +/- would be really helpful. I hope to purchase and install in the next month.

I will chat them up to see how it works. Again this forum is such a great resource, so glad it’s here!

I thought I would share the response from SC430MODS on how their interface works without having to splice or tap into reverse lights wire to trigger the rear camera:
“The wiring harness adapters have a pass through that adapts an existing reverse line trigger on the Nav ECU.”
So I ordered one today, will report back on the install and function, this looks to be the most elegant and cost effective solution to add backup camera to our cars.

Other than the motion sickness induced by the head mounted camera in Calvin's video, the install looks pretty straightforward.
Just a lot of trunk interior pieces to remove and replace.
Look forward to your report.

So I finally found the time to do the install, I gathered all the tools etc, watched the video again and took apart all the trim to get to the Nav ECU and hit a wall! It seems the 2010 model is vastly different from the 02-09’s Nav system. Lexus went to GEN6 Nav with HDD vice DVD and the unit and connectors are not compatible with the interface. Calvin was very apologetic and is giving me a full refund. If you look at the SCMods page you will see the description has changed to 02-09 from 02-10 for this product.
so I am back on the hunt for a solution.

Update on my sojourn to add backup camera on my SC, Mike at NAVIKS thought he had a interface that would connect at the NAV ECU but he wanted to do the install to ensure it worked so I made the drive from MD to Brooklyn. It turned out after attempt that it would not work but after much troubleshooting he tech was able to find a compatible interface to connect at the NAV screen unit. I am super pleased to finally have the capability pic included , I went with the CS CAM 400 and the license plate frame mount that is designed for the camera.
the one issue is that I did not notice until I was back home that the tilt function is not working on the NAV unit, door works fine. I have done some research on it but not sure what could have caused this, if the mechanism arm became misaligned from being jostled around, or if the connectors did not seat properly? I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas before I take anything apart, I need to get a trim tool first and I have seen videos on how to take the NAV unit out, but a detailed diagram of it would really help, does anyone have one or a link?

Squid,
Installing backup cam with NAVIKS does not involve with the NAV unit removal. You just simply connect the connectors in the trunk. So your still function problem must be pre-existed. Any way, it’s probably the motor or just simply the NAV connector is need to properly seated.

GMan,
Not sure if read all of my post, the NAVIKS unit would not connect to my NAV ECU as the 2010 has a different system, HDD and not DVD. The interface he installed was behind the NAV screen unit.
Not a preexisting issue, before the install everything worked as it should.
