Default 05 sc430 87k miles help with codes

Just purchased a vehicle from a private seller who has had it since 2015. I knew about engine light and VSC & VSC off warning ligts, but got a fantastic deal and am prepared to dig in to fix this beauty . I have read tons and spent hours on forums trying to learn as much as possible. Wanted to see if anyone knows how these 4 codes coming together along with a few other things im noticing might point in
a more definite direction. My husband does most of his own work on his chevy truck so we hope to try and learn and do our own work on my sc430. Ps. Car is running beautiful, excellent power, start up sounds mostly good (i think it could sound better). I think i hear a slight ticking near the belt only while in park, and i smell heavier than what i think is normal gas or exhaust, i mostly drive with top down and do not smell it when top is up and windows up. Also, prev owner did almost all if his own work, thinks this is a sensor issue. We live in Hawaii, 1 lexus dealership with controversial reputation and known gauging, trying to save when and if i can. Here are the diagnostics codes from our bluedriver model lsb2:

P0031
C1201
C1336
BC1336

Thank you, in advance, for any help! I love love love driving this car!!!!! Was my mother's day present!!!

Well, first of all, congratulations on your acquisition and welcome to the forum. Oh and happy Mother's Day. (What an awesome present!)

I'm not very knowledgeable about those particular codes but obtaining a Techstream will help in the long run with tracking down proprietary Toyota codes and also programming various parts of the car (like replacing tire pressure sensors, various configurations of the car, how various lights operate, etc.) It is an invaluable tool for a Lexus vehicle. There are several threads on the forum providing all sorts of information on where to get one, how to install it, what some of it's capabilities are and how to use it.

Welcome to the Club, and congrats on your gift. All of your codes are related to the O2 sensor. If you are lucky, replacing the gas cap may clear the problem, but I doubt it.

Congrats OP. Post Pics !!! I have an 05 as well and the warning lights you are getting on the dash are similar to mine several years back. In my case I had to replace two O2 sensors. IIRC the SC430 has 4 O2 sensors so you will have to figure out which ones of yours are bad.

Congrta on the new SC. The only problem you will have is there is no place on H1 that you can really drive the car. Maybe H3. We spent 15 winters living on our sailboat in HI. I have heard that the Lexus dealership has issues. Get up to speed on Techstream and avoid going there if you can. Our oldest works for the city and county of Honolulu and has lived in HI since 1986.

Hi everyone and thank you for your replies! I am personally Detailing car today inside and out with my husband....not that it needs it but just because I want to spoil this beauty and myself (haha) a d become intimately familiar with ever inch of her. Will post pics once complete!

Below are the previous owner's words, he bought the car in early 2015 and for many reason we believe him to be a very trustworthy individual who sold us a beautiful well maintained vehicle:
"Car is in great running condition. However, it does have an oxygen sensor indicating low voltage (doesn’t effect how it runs, but causes check engine light to engage).
Car has new brakes (ceramic/low dust), new rotors, new 02 sensors & front end of exhaust (3x catalytic converters and Y pipe). The radiator, thermostat and water pump all have under 5k on them. Vehicle has had recent time up(plugs, coil packs). Car has custom exterior cover"

Sooo, After knowing what he has done and we are still getting all 4 codes, any ideas on what to do next, maybe list in orde of easiest/cheapest for us? I'm such a newbie, your guidance is so very much appreciated.

Ps. Did I say i love my sc430 yet? I definitely do!!

No, Techstream TIS. Here are a few threads. (Seems like there is a ultimate Techstream thread but I didn't find it in a quick search.)

The previous owner mentioned the Water Pump replacement but not the Timing Belt. Check under the hood for the TB changed sticker or talk to him. I hope TB has been replaced. If the TB has not been done, that should be your priority. You can live with the codes for while since he indicated the O2 sensor has been replaced.

Congratulations on the new present and welcome to ClubLexus!

How did u get these error codes? Do you have a scanner, or did the previous owner give them to you? The reason I ask is because BC1336 isn't a valid code (Though I think it is really C1336 with some kind of prefix)

Based on the first code P0031, your driver's side O2 sensor closest to the engine isn't working properly. Normally you would just change it, but you also have that second code C1201 which makes it seem like there is either something wrong with your car's computer, or the O2 sensor wiring. I am betting on the wiring. If I were you, I would crawl under the car and take a look at the wiring. Often times, people try to splice in O2 sensors, because running the wire is a little bit complicated. I think it is a bad splice, but I am just guessing. If you see a splice that is probably the cause.

The last two codes are pretty easy to fix. Read this post and give it a try
